Cable and satellite channels were at one time a welcome alternative to broadcast TV. Now too many of them air repeats of sit-coms and crime dramas that are edited to allow more advertising. A typical one-hour time slot now consists of 40 minutes of the actual program with the remaining 20 minutes made up of commercials and endless repetitions of promos for upcoming programs. Some of the classic hour-long dramas are missing up to ten minutes of the program because of this.
These channels are doing themselves in.
