Fill the Blank! How to write a horror movie in Woke 2021! 😁

I was realizing that almost every horror movie right now can be summed up in "Evil white male/males who is/are a [Horror Trope] try to harm a poor innocent female". Usually they add some diversity hires to help the innocent female against the evil white male/males and voilà, you have a script!

If you fill [Horror Trope] with different horror tropes, you can get the plots of most modern horror movies.

■ False Positive (2021)
Evil white male/males who is/are an EVIL SCIENTIST try to harm a poor innocent female.

■ The Night House (2021)
Evil white male/males who is/are an EX-HUSBAND GHOST try to harm a poor innocent female.

■ In the Earth (2021)
Evil white male/males who is/are an EVIL SORCERER try to harm a poor innocent female.

■ Intrusion (2021)
Evil white male/males who is/are a RAPIST KILLER try to harm a poor innocent female.

■ Malignant (2021)
Evil white male/males who is/are a UNBORN KILLER try to harm a poor innocent female.

Your turn!

Imagine that! A male antagonist and a woman in peril. In a horror movie. Startling stuff.

That, and the fact that white males have been the antagonists in horror films since year dot (I wonder if Dr Jekyll, Count Dracula, Norman Bates, Jack Torrance, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Hannibal Lecter etc etc realised they were all so woke?). But never let pesky little facts such as that get in the way of another woke hysteria post. Rinse and repeat!

reply

Yeah. Horror has been 'woke' since at least the nineteenth century. Who knew?

reply

That, and the fact that white males have been the antagonists in horror films since year dot [...] Dr Jekyll, Count Dracula, Norman Bates, Jack Torrance, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Hannibal Lecter

In those cases you picked, the killer attacked both females and males indiscriminately. You didn't see Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers chasing specifically females: they chased everybody. And in none of them (perhaps with the exception of The Shinning) there were diversity hires helping against the evil white male.

You picked a few movies from a whole 50 years range, and they don't even fill the template. Sorry.

reply

Uh-hu. Fascinating.

Better get on to your next post that no one will give a crap about. Oooh woke 😱

Well, you gave enough crap to try to counter-argument, even though you failed 😏

This is just as bad as insisting the Bechdel Test proves movies are sexist.

For those who don't know, the Bechdel Test argues that a movie requires 2 female characters, who both have names, and they talk to each other about something other than a man to not be sexist. The issue is that named minor characters are rare in scripts to begin with and it can be very easy for a movie to fail the test of 2 male characters, etc. Talking about something other than the opposite sex can be just as hard if you have a diverse cast, if your bad guy is a male and your two leads are female you've failed the test and are a sexist movie.

The only thing your test proves is that people prefer bad guys to be guys and like putting women in danger because they're seen as helpless. That casting is generally white has nothing to do with horror movies, most movies have white leads. I could easily argue that the "Evil male" trope is horribly sexist against women because it portrays the idea that women aren't smart enough to be evil and are helpless to defend themselves.

The Bechdel Test actually works, it just that it can be easily explained without theories about sexism. In movies, secondary characters, both male and female, they rarely speak about their own stuff or anything else but things related to the main character quest (there's no time to explore everybody's life). Obi Wan doesn't speak about anything else but Luke's family and quest. The Bechdel Test just proves that secondary characters are... well, secondary. Who would have guessed, huh?

The plots template I talked about in the OP works. I can think of an explanation that starts with "wo" and ends with "ke". However, if you have a simpler one, I'd like to hear it. I'm not kidding: when you have several explanations equally logical, then favor the simplest one.

EDIT You included the explanation in your previous comment through editing, so I'll edit this one.

Your explanation was "The only thing your test proves is that people prefer bad guys to be guys and like putting women in danger because they're seen as helpless.". Well, I'm sorry, but it fails.

According to your model, evil guys (when human) would males. Your model doesn't explain why they're mostly white when "diversity" is allegedly enforced.

According to your model, damsels in distress would be mostly females, fine, but it doesn't explain why the ones that save the day are mostly females too or non-white males.

I think you missed the entire point about the Bechdel test. Those who insist it proves sexism often use the claim "Why do so many movies fail the test if sexism isn't a problem"

Your test is using the same exact claim "Why do so many movies pass this test if wokism isn't a problem." And just like those who claim the Bechdel test is a test for sexism, you ignore all issues with your own test for wokism.

Being unable to convince someone who thinks the Bechdel test actually proves sexism that it doesn't doesn't change that the Bechdel test doesn't measure sexism in the slightest. Being unable to convince you that your test of wokism only is a test for classic tropes doesn't change that your test is only a test for classic tropes, not wokism.

I have to say, it's hilarious how you responded an hour after I posted and are complaining about me editing my response.

Correlation does not equal causation, and it is your job to prove your test works not our job to disprove it (you're begging the question, as in "if aliens exist why hasn't SETI found any evidence of them existing? Therefore aliens don't exist.")

In my previous comment, I already provided a logical and simpler explanation to why it works which is not related to sexism.

Your test is using the same exact claim "Why do so many movies pass this test if wokism isn't a problem." And just like those who claim the Bechdel test is a test for sexism, you ignore all issues with your own test for wokism.

In my previous comment, I already invited you to provide a simpler explanation to it, or to explain such issues. Still waiting.

Being unable to convince you that your test of wokism only is a test for classic tropes doesn't change that your test is only a test for classic tropes, not wokism.

In my previous comment, the last two paragraphs, I already explained why that theory fails.

it is your job to prove your test works not our job to disprove it

It's obvious the test works unless you have been hiding under a rock last years.

As I already said in my previous comment, the question is whether you can provide a simpler explanation to why it works.

if aliens exist why hasn't SETI found any evidence of them existing? Therefore aliens don't exist

In my previous comment, I already... ah! no, not here, that's a first! 😂

Anyway, there's other logical explanations to that. For example: the technological window until a civilization runs out of resources and goes back to stone age is only a few centuries (it will happen to us too), so it's unlikely a civilization would broadcast in the exact moment that would allow us to hear it.

reply

Easy. Most of the cast are POC's and/or gay, with a smart, bitchy, feminazi female as the lead, and the token white, straight male in the group dies first.
