What did you watch this week good fellas? (09/05-09/11) CLOSED

My boy turned 7. We had 14 kids at the party and of all races. I felt like Gordon Bombay.

My week:

The Vanished (2020 Netflix): Kind of a slow burn but works well in the end. Heche was great. I can’t really put into words why but I am always happy to see Thomas Jane. I like to see him maybe even more than Aaron Eckhart. But then again I remind myself that they are both one and the same. Back to the movie: very atmospheric with a nice twist in the end that is Shyamalanesque as can be. Light spoiler: Loved the loop ending. My rating: 7/10

The crew (1994 TV): PVR’d this because of Viggo Mortensen and the cool looking cover. This total cinematic failure actually managed to keep my attention and it was mildly entertaining. 5/10

The missing (2003tv): At the 5 minutes mark I was astounded to see Mr Eckhart! These two movies have more in common than they know! And what were the chances that I’d see them in the same week! As for the movie it’s a solid one it is good performances but not really exciting and I never truly felt any tension. 6.5/10

The spy who dumped me (2018 TV): This was quite a wild ride and I like these 2 actresses but we listened to it in two different evenings and I was a bit confused in the end. Still, a fun “compromise” movie to watch with the wife. My rating: 6/10

Bad trip (2021 Netflix): If, like me, you love Tom Green, Sacha Baron Cohen, the impractical jokers, Jackass and all that kind of stuff, you are in for a treat! I haven’t laughed that hard since a long time. I didn’t want this film to end. I hope they make 4 more before 2024. These guys rock and Haddish was awesome. Now, does anyone knows where I can watch The Eric Andre show? My rating: 8.5/10

Jack and the giant slayer (2013 TV): Watched this with the kids but it failed to keep my full attention and I started doing chores around her house as it played. Not really my cup of tea tonstart with anyway. In Quebec it’s rated 8+ but I regret having my 5 years old watching it. A bit too disgusting those giants plus they bite people’s heads off. My rating: 4.5/10

I’m at episode 13 of Season 3 of Into the badlands. 3 more and I’m officially done with this amazing series and ill be able to do a breakdown.

I’m at episode 17 of the final season of The Big Bang theory. I’ll be truly sad once it’s finally over.

I started The mighty ducks: Game changer on Disney. Watched the first 2 episodes. Although there were a few genuinely good moments, I’m disappointed in the final product. I’ll continue to watch it with my boys but it will take us a while to finish it I think.

Vera Drake - 2004

An odd film by Mike Leigh. It's about a charming lower class London woman who cleans the houses of the wealthy, and
then returns to take care of her family in their tiny apartment. Oh yeah, and on the side, she does abortions for poor
girls who "need her help". She doesn't even get paid. The rat which arranges the contacts charges the girls two guineas,
but doesn't tell Mrs. Drake.

Looking forward to your review of Into the Badlands' final season. Shame AMC dropped it for even more Walking Dead. They barely even marketed Badlands. Anyways, my week went like this

Travelers (2016) Season 1: FINALLY started this show. Been meaning to for the past 5 years. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Solid sci-fi series. 8.5/10

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms (2021) - Solid sequel to last year's "Scorpion's revenge". Not as good but mostly solid. If you're a Mortal Kombat fan, you'll probably like it. 7.5/10

No one Lives (2012) - Went into this with no expectations & I had an absolute blast. It's a really good Revenge - Horror - Thriller. Luke Evans is absolutely fantastic. It's so gory in parts. But I didn't mind. It was really entertaining. 8.5/10

Added no one lives to my list!

Not seen any of yours, which doesn't happen too often.

The Night House (2020) – This was somewhat of a surprise to come on the scene. It was hard for me to understand, which was entirely my fault, not the fault of the movie. It had pretty good tension and I always enjoy Rebecca Hall. (75/100)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) – This had a way more positive reception than I expected. I thought the first 30 minutes were great, but then I was bored for a long stretch. The bus fight was the best part. I guess the end was good, but was too CGI-heavy. If my expectations hadn’t been raised by people’s reactions I might not have been disappointed, but I couldn’t help it. (76/100)

Free Guy (2021) – Good, and had a lot of amusing moments and appearances. I have to say I really thought it was too long. Even thought it was only an hour and 55 minutes, it felt to me like it was about 2 and ½ hours. I like a lot of the people in it, but as a lot of people said, the Taika Waititi character was too overdone. (77/100)

Early Summer (1951) – A good movie. I struggled to get through some of it early on, but it got much better later. Setsuko Hara has a certain lovability that few, if any, other actresses have ever had, in my opinion. She lights up the screen like a huge ball of fire. It was a completely different movie when she was onscreen than off it. And unfortunately there was too much time with her off it. (76/100)

Pride & Prejudice (2005) – All in all, it was fairly good. Boring at some parts, but generally better in the latter half. My issue is that I just never felt like there was any love between Elizabeth and Darcy. Elizabeth wanting to marry him didn’t seem properly developed. I always like Keira Knightley. I didn’t know Rosamund Pike was British. Well, I might have known at one point, but I forgot. (74/100)

The Voyeurs (2021) – This was a weird movie that had me really interested at some parts and aggravated at others. The first twist was extremely predictable (not the exact details, but the general idea), and the drugged wine was super obvious too. Before seeing this I wasn’t sure if I thought Sydney Sweeney was attractive or not, but one scene in the movie went a long way toward removing that doubt. (67/100)

Paint Your Wagon (1969) – I didn’t expect much from this, and I was very pleased. A western comedy musical, which you don’t see a lot of. It’s not popular at all, and I’m not sure why, because it rocked. (83/100)

Malignant (2021) – Reactions to this movie ranged all over the place, basically from absolutely terrible to mine. I liked it a lot. Not even as a cheesy B-movie, like a lot of people said, but it was just really good. The ending was a bit unsatisfactory. I currently have it as my 6th best movie of the so far disappointing year. (81/100)

None of yours either!

Next time maybe!

No movies this week, only a mini series starring Pierce Brosnan and Eric Idle.

Series

-Around the World in 80 Days (1989) - Episode 1
I remember liking this mini series when I first watched in back in the 90s. Seeing it now, I think they spend way too much time on unnecessary side plots that were not in the book with historical cameos that make no sense and silly humour.

-The Bold and the Beautiful - marathon of very old episodes
