Nice list! about 6 or so of those movies I've never seen, I'll check em out.

If I remember correctly, The Tuskegee Airmen was an HBO production that went directly to cable.
Looking at the film's IMDb page seems to confirm this for under Awards, Primetime Emmys are the only awards listed.
So despite the fact that the film had no theatrical release, thus no box office nor popularity numbers, I included it on my list because I felt that it was a high quality film with excellent acting that I liked a lot.
So much so, that I bought the Blu-ray of the film which comes complete with a 30 page booklet.
A very nice package, indeed.

reply

Thanks! That explains it.

reply

Nice addition of the The Forgotten and Newcomers categories. Good for perspective since the Popularity rankings shift so much based on daily searches.

reply

Thank you.

Yes, the popular list shouldn't be taken too seriously, although they usually stay within a given range, they are not a hard number.

reply

It belatedly occurs to me that the current popular ranking is biased towards the people who use IMDb to rank films - i.e. us! Not sure that's a truly representative sample of humanity ๐Ÿ˜€.
Which might explain the surprising absence of Toy Story.

reply

Yes! Heavy young men/nerd bias.

Popularity rankings are searched based (I omitted low vote count movies that appear) so it's a little more equal to the sexes.

But vote count seems to be more of a young man thing. The biggest vote count I've come across is Fight Club with 1.9 million votes.

My fave movie of 1995 is Todd Haynes' Safe (his breakthrough).
Other faves so far unmentioned include Welcome to the Dollhouse, Dead Man, To Die For, and (generally forgotten these days but genuinely excellent) Angels and Insects.

reply

A unique list, thanks for adding. I'll check some of those out.

reply

I recall Braveheart being a blockbuster... guess I'm wrong about that...

IMO only ones worth watching:

Braveheart
Kids
Basketball Diaries
Pocahontas
Tommy Boy
12 Monkeys

reply

Before doing this list I was sure Tommy Boy would be in the top 20 in popularity. It's popularity rank hardly moved from it's box office ranking in 1995.

reply

I see the year 1995 everywhere without even looking it up, Itโ€™s like I canโ€™t escape. ๐Ÿคฃ

reply

WOW. This list had some big changes from one to the other.

Is this the most profound so far, i wonder?

My favs Se7en and Braveheart and Casino.

reply

Interesting year with alot of classics and a lot of duds.

"Clueless" has stood the test of time! Huzzah! It was bitchin' then and is still awesome now! Am also glad to see "Apollo 13" got and is still getting its due, it's a damn good movie and very accurate by the standards of Hollywood.

And "Forget Paris" has been forgotten for a reason. People saw it because of the stars, but really, it's a movie about two unlikable people having relationship problems. Anyone can see that in real life for free.

reply

I've noticed that a good deal of 'The Forgotten' are movie stars coming off a recent hit movie and draw crowds to a mediocre movie with their star power.

reply

The "Ace Ventura" sequel definitely fits that pattern.

The first one was funny if you're in a mood for coarse humor and cute animals, the second one just sucked.
