Ever notice that it takes you 2 1/2 months to get used to the cold and then 2 1/2 months to get used to the heat?

By the end of the summer I am cool with the heat and enjoy it and don't ever want winter to come. But by the end of the winter I am ok with the cold too, the quietness of having the windows closed and sleeping well. March, April May are my favorite months. But then June comes and I am just uncomfortable and irritable and my sleep suffers.

When October comes the change bothers me too. I think it is more the hate of the short days but I just feel cold.

I welcome the cooler weather and get used to it readily.

I don't get used to the heat, as in acclimating to it. "Getting used to the heat" means resigning my self to be hot, sweaty and miserable when I have to be outside in it, and that's the way it's going to be till fall. Coming back inside to air conditioning makes worth living again.

Full disclosure: I live in a part of the US where summertime humidity is uncomfortably high.

Try living in Australia.

reply

Try, as in "if you think you've got it bad in heat and humidity...."?

Or is it, "try" as in, I'd like it?

reply

As in it is hot as balls 90% of the time, humidity will kill ya. Were in winter now. But I don't even need to wear a jumper in winter where I live.

reply

I see. Of course its quite a big land mass though, a continent in its own right. Is hot and humid all the time everywhere? Are other parts more temperate?

reply

i never have to get used to the cold of winter. i crave it, and when it comes it's the only time i feel comfortable and normal.

i will never, ever get used to the grinding misery of summer.

some people love it. i am definitely not one of those people.

as far as i'm concerned, summer and everything associated with it can die die die a miserable death.

(though i do enjoy getting out for long bike rides. so that's one notch in favour of summer. everything else about it stinks).

I'm picturing Pee Wee Herman.

I have to say when we had that polar vortex and winds were howling outside I had the most cozy blissful sleep I could ever ask for. I fell asleep listening to harry potter in the winter music.

reply

I don't like summer, either, especially July and August.

Like you said, some people love it, which I can't comprehend, either. I had a co-worker who was always counting down the days until it began. You would hear him when he was punching out, "Only two more months until summer... Only one month until summer... Only two weeks until the first day of summer..." Ad nauseum.

I would rather have the fall, winter and the early part of spring.

I work outside so when I get out the truck in the morning I usually don’t go inside until that afternoon when it’s time to go home. So there’s pretty much no getting used to the changes for me at all.

I known the feeling. Bet you love your shower.

reply

Yes! lol
