Horror Movies

What is the scariest horror film you have ever seen? SiFi too, I guess.

When I first saw it as a young kid, the morgue scene in the Vincent Price movie 'House of Wax' gave me the creeps, and the 1953 'War of The Worlds; scared me as well.

Two. First one is Jeepers Creepers. I was super young when I first saw it. The creature gave me Nightmares

Second one is The Descent from 2005. I was just a teen when I first saw it. Didn't see a trailer for it & I barely knew anything about it going in.

I'm a claustrophobic. And the film takes place in a cave with tight spaces. Even without the creatures, the film was already hard to get through. Also, the film masterfully utilizes jump scares. Genuinely got me so good a few times. My heart was beating like crazy

Those 2 would definitely be in my top 5.😮

At the time when we saw it on opening night, and we genuinely believed that it was legitimate found footage taken by three kids that went missing in the woods, it was 'The Blair Witch Project.'

Nowadays, I'd probably say 'Session 9.' I couldn't sleep after I watched that, and was mentally spooked thinking about it for a couple of days.

reply

Session 9 is great. That ending really got to me and as you said, I thought about it for days after.

reply

I've watched Session 9 at least four times, it was a creepy and alarming gem

Happily, people still mention this perfect chiller because it's a great example of a cult classic that didn't make bank at the time ($1.7 m worldwide box vs. $1.5 m budget)

titicut Follies

Saw that a few weeks ago.

The original The Woman in Black (1989). I can really put myself in Mr Kidd’s shoes and it creeps me out big time. I’d rather fight anything than have “her” come after me.

Ghost Story. Maybe more disturbing than frightening, although it had a couple of good jump scares. There are multiple movies with this title; I'm talking about the one released in 1981: https://moviechat.org/tt0082449/Ghost-Story

I believe it was Showtime that ran this in the early 1980s. The simplistic title, along with the previews run on Showtime caught me off guard. I thought, "meh... a bunch old old guys sitting around telling ghost stories," but decided to give it a viewing anyway. The movie was completely different from what the preview clips had suggested, and the gruesome manner in which one of the characters dies was really disturbing for me.

the Ending had people confused in the theater

The horror one or the porn one? 😁

It Follows

reply

Good example, It Follows was genuinely creepy and brought to mind a sort of STD Demon that you can't escape unless you passed it off! Gross and scary...some great camera work in it btw

Check out Hereditary (18) or
Sinister (12) if you enjoy pretty scary movies with very good actors, stories and chills

reply

Sinister is the gold standard for me.....It follows bugged me for a while..I haven't watched it since the first viewing. I know its tough to watch subtitles but Tale of Two Sisters is really worth it.

reply

I don't mind subs at all and I've heard very good things about Tale Of Two Sisters...
I need to watch this one

I Saw The Devil was a fine Korean thriller/horror that's worth checking out as well

reply

It might be too girly for you...Theres a sister vibe thats tragic...At the end of the day its about two sisters who loved each other.

reply

I Saw the Devil is excellent! Subbed only, though. The dubbed one is not the way to go. The voices just don't work.

reply

I've only seen the subtitled version, I like the sound of Korean and reading doesn't bug me

This quote comes to mind...'When you gaze too long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you'

ISTD is Such a twisted, wild thriller

reply

I'm the same. If I have a choice I go for subbed every time but the first time I saw it, it was dubbed only. I have since bought it with subs. Much better. 😀 I like listening to Korean also, Their mannerisms and inflection is often hilarious!!
