Bands Where You Have To Specify You Only Like "The Old Stuff"

I always have to do this just to make sure I'm not misrepresenting myself.

Pink Floyd -- I don't like "Pipers...." or their last three.. Meddle to The Final Cut
Supertramp - again, just the Roger stuff, but another band who's first couple albums weren't as great as their next few.
The Who - like Led Zeppelin, their last couple albums (classic lineup) weren't great as the previous ones, but I think they died with Keith.
The Rolling Stones - last album I liked was "Tattoo You" and the best songs were almost a decade old.
Black Sabbath - I only like the Ozzy years
David Bowie - one of a couple of artists who actually had a handful of good songs in the last 30-40 years, but its nothing compared to his 70s work

Springsteen and Rosalita was the last song we played to psych us up heading out to mixers or parties during college but I admit I couldn't name a song of his that came out this century.

Aerosmith - After 1979 they're dead to me.

Queen - Anything pre-1980. 'Jazz' last good studio album, 'Live Killers' best live album.

The next one could be regarded as low-hanging fruit, but I'll list it just the same.

Metallica - Post 1991 is not for me. 'Death Magnetic' redeemed them pretty good though, 20+ years later.

Judas Priest: Pre-1982.

Queen is another example I would have used.

Heart Dreamboat Annie only
Alice in Chains Facelift only

I only like Van Halen before Sammy Hagar.

That's an interesting example, you hear this debate a lot...I prefer the Roth era VH but Sammy was pretty great too

I 100% agree with you with The Stones and Sabbath.

Dr. Feelgood - Only like their first two albums

Motörhead - After their third album, it just turns to generic speed metal.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung is a great album, but any other songs I like from them come from their first few albums.

Slade - What ever happened to Slade after their "Whatever Happened to Slade" album?

King Crimson - After "Red", it pretty much went downhill.

Wire - They still make music? Album #4 is when they dipped.

UFO - Another band I'm shocked still makes music.

Royal Blood - They have a solid debut album, but the two afterward are awful.

Yes - Their albums after 1975: no.

Smashing Pumpkins - An amazing band in the 90s but fell apart when they returned after their breakup.

Rush - The 80s and afterward weren't kind to them.

wire - i still like a lot of the music they released after their 70s run. the first three albums are definitely their legacy - they sort of map out where a lot of music would travel over the coming years - but i really dig their 80s albums, and i liked a lot of the stuff they've done this century too. spent, for eg, is one of my favourite wire tracks. kicks pretty hard for a bunch of old guys.

Not a bad track. It doesn't even sound like them. There's a lot of fuzz.

i just muted the crappy 80s shot on video slasher i was watching and played 4 80s wire tracks.

maybe it's just me, but they still sound exciting and fun and vital. especially on ideal copy. there are great tracks on there.

& the finest drops from a bell is a cup... was one of my favourite headphone tracks back when i used to get baked and zone out to music a lot.

Not a fan of that one. Sounds new wave.

I forgot about Rush, and agree with your take. I like them pre-1980.
