MTV Movie & TV Awards
What an interesting facade of what is socially going on in society today. The MTV Movie & TV Awards this year had the highest number of women and men of color win all the accolades. Every single category (Best Performance, Best Villain, Best Breakthrough) all won by white females and minorities. What's more amazing is how all the top acting awards went to black men (Though I'm happy for Anthony Mackie). The only categories to have a white male winner was Best Duo and Best Kiss.
White men are now the minorities in these award shows. In fact, if you check the nominees lists (https://www.mtv.com/movie-and-tv-awards/vote/), you'll see most categories only have 1 white male candidate. The only ones that had more than 1 were Best Kiss and Best Villain. But look at everything else. Best Performance in a Movie: Boseman, Mulligan, Cohen, Kaluuya and Zendaya. Boy are we trying really hard to be diverse or at least acquit ourselves of all this systematic racism going on in the country.
It's fascinating how during these political and social unrests that is happening right now, we have movies, music and television trying to over-inflate representation that if they dare to NOT have a female, black or gay inclusion, they'll be forever demonized as racists, sexists or homophobic. I have never seen anything like this when I was growing up in the 90s.
Anyway, I use to enjoy watching this show. But then these fools decided to add a TV component (instead of having a separate awards show for that) and combine nominees from it and movies. I mean we have movies and shows competing against each other in the same category. What other freaking awards do that? I also hated that they combined Best Male and Female performance into 1 category. (It makes plenty of worthy candidates miss out on a nomination). Now I wonder if this was to not offend non-gender binary people. (Again another political facade that should have never even been thought of). And in the finale, the Best Movie winner was a film that wasn't even nominated for anything else: To All the Boys I Love 3 (the only nomination it had).
