shareMy family was visiting Mexico as a high school kid off for the summer.
We were walking down one of the streets in Guadalajara, not even a main street, and I saw a classmate walking the other way.
I think we both could not believe it and didn't know what to do but exchange weird glances.
In 2010, I was at Forrest Lawns in Los Angeles for the 1st anniversary of MJs passing.
I was talking to an American about MJ visiting Australia and how the entertainment journalist, Molly Meldrum, got an interview with him.
I then said "Molly probably isn't the major entertainment journalist anymore, it's probably Richard Wilkins".
As I said they Richard Wilkins was walking up the hill.
I then said "there he is actually".
The American guy was like "what, that's the Australian guy you're talking about?" And I said "yup, that's him".
He wasn't there to do a story, he was just a guy walking up the hill.
Very surreal.
Numerous occasions when I've been abroad and I've unexpectedly bumped into someone I know.
shareI was on my honeymoon in Tunisia. On the second week my wife and I stopped at a small cafe. Sitting a few tables away were a guy and a girl from where we both worked (in the UK). They'd been secretly dating for a few months and had sneaked away for a holiday together.
shareMy husband and I were on a cruise that started in Santiago, Chili, went through the Panama Canal, and ended in Ft Lauderdale. We ran into the county auditor where we kept our boat on a lake about one hour from our house - really out in the middle of nowhere Indiana.
shareI was working at a temp job long ago, sitting around a table sorting papers with a group of other young temps. One of them was an immigrant from Ethiopia, a young woman.
"Oh, I met a couple of Ethiopians when I did a semester of college in Spain", said a young white woman, who seemed like a complete airhead.
"Really, what university?" Said the Ethiopian girl.
"Uh, university of [I forget], they were twins from [I forget]".
"I think they were my cousins!". Said the Ethiopian girl...
Years ( 30+ ) ago, I co-worker said he would lend me a piece of test equipment and that it was in his locker. He gave me directions where his locker was and gave the combination of the lock. I then went there to get it. It was a large locker room with over a hundred lockers in about a half dozen rows.
I opened the locker but found no such item such as he described. I went back out, found him told him this and he said it was absolutely there and he came with me to find it. I swung the locker door fully open to allow him room to find it and he said "That's not my locker". Apparently I must mistook something like "The 4th locker down on the 3rd row" to something like "3rd locker down in the 4th row" or whatever...but the combination locks had the exact same combination. Quite a coincidence.
my ex-girlfriend's daughter and my son ended up at the the same engineering school, university of toronto. same class.
