Your favorite cities in the US

Here are mine and brief reasons why:

1. Los Angeles. Lived there, loved it. Aside from the beautiful weather, beautiful women, and beautiful beaches, I loved it because I love movies and loved living where it's all made. LA certainly has it's issues (as do all major cities), but I love the vibe of LA and in my experience everyone there was incredibly kind and interesting.

2. Columbus, OH. Went to college there, the quintessential Midwestern college city. Maybe a bit bigger than the most average midwest college city, but I loved it's banging art scene, the pizza in my opinion is amazing (personally liked it more than many of the Chicago and NY pizza places I've tried), and it's got a surprisingly lot of fun stuff to do. Also, I like Ohio State.

3. Austin- Texas version of Columbus, but maybe probably better. Beautiful scenery, SWSX, best BBQ I have ever eaten in my life. A little too hot in the summer for me, but if I could tolerate the heat more I'd consider living there.

4. Cincinnati- Closest major city I grew up by (Dayton doesn't count). I love Cincy chili, and anyone who has seen Cincy once you clear that "bend" coming up from I75 will couch for how awesome it's skyline is. Cincy probably is just any other city, but it holds a special place in my heart.

Anchorage - Because it's Canada Jr.

Minneapolis - The snow.

Detroit - Because I feel bad for them.

New York - Same reason as Minneapolis.

reply

I want to visit both Anchorage and Barrow in Alaska.

reply

Los Angeles? That is the shittiest filthiest nastiest city I have ever seen in my life. San Diego is exponentially better.
Seattle used to be great. Liberals ruined it. I'll go with
Minneapolis used to be awesome. Liberals ruined it.
Sioux Falls, SD is one of my favorite cities. Until liberals ruin it.
Fargo, ND is not a bad city. Until liberals ruin it.
Helena, MT is a nice place. Until liberals ruin it.

reply

Of course I expected this to get political. My goodness these boards suck.

I have never been to ND or Montana but I like Sioux Falls.

Politics seems to be something many on this board can never get off their mind. It seems to consume people here.

Los Angeles is dirty and seedy but it is also beautiful and cultured. San Diego is nice but I like the excitement and pace of LA. I like Hollywood.

reply

LA is beautiful and cultured? They hide it well.

reply

Yes all sorts of beauty in L.A. Just drive up Mulholland. Plenty of examples.

And are you seriously asking if LA is cultured?

Are you sure you've even been there?

reply

What culture? I'd call it a bankrupt culture.

reply

Honestly at this point you seem like you just want to argue. There are so many art museums in the city I can't list all of them. Influences of great architects like Wright are all over.

Funny thing is your first response I this thread revealed your true feelings. I get it, it's a liberal city so therefore you dislike it.

I can't help you there.

reply

No argument here. I simply contend LA is the worst place I have ever seen. Seattle and Minneapolis are catching up. Yes, they are run into the ground by liberals.

reply

Sorry you aren't a fan. It's a fantastic city. About so much more than politics.

reply

I lived a year in LA, working for awhile on Hollywood Boulevard. I saw tons of celebs and even movies being shot. I agree, you do feel like you're in the world of movies.

I could see the paramount water tower and Hollywood sign from my bedroom. Great vibe.

reply

I lived in a Latino neighbourhood that boarded Downtown LA.

I grew to like the gritty nature of the city so when I went to San Diego it seemed too clean, too perfect. I was glad to head back to LA.

reply

There's nothing like some good quality grit. Well, everyone wins in your case!

It's been a while since I did any serious and varied traveling. Having said that,

1. Nantucket. More of a town than a city, I visited years ago and it may be quite different now. It was a little bit of heaven on Earth.

2. Laguna Beach. My favorite beach town when I was living in Orange County, CA

3. Minneapolis - The minny-apple. Lots of big city amenities but not the hurly-burly (present situation excepted).

4. Sarasota - Lots of the pluses of Florida without the minuses. At least that's what I remember.

5. Las Vegas - Top entertainment, fine dining, and world-class shopping.

6. Palm Springs - Great bars but also a great arts scene.

reply

I've never been to Minneapolis but I definitely want to!

Laguna Beach is nice. So many nice beaches in Southern California. I think my favorite in OC is San Clemente.

Sarasota is where Macho Man is from!!!!

Las Vegas probably should have been on my list. Ron White summed Vegas up best when he said "I like Las Vegas because I'm not a bad person in Las Vegas".

Palm Springs is cool.

reply

My brother goes to Minneapolis all the time. He can't believe they have four major league sports teams

reply

I grew up around L.A..Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and they are great cities. I went back to visit about 5 years ago, and they were still great places to get a meal and lay on the beach:)

reply

There really aren't any bad spots on the southern Ca coast imo.

reply

Well ... Seal Beach was always bad as far as beaches go. Beach conditions all round have been declining for a decade+

Long Beach is not a good place.

reply

I would say some of the smaller cities in northern Vermont and New Hampshire. I've driven a lot around those two states, and they are beautiful. When I lived in Massachusetts we would drive up north on weekends just to sightsee, and have lunch.

reply

I have a bunch of family in the Saint Albans and the outdoor pics they take are all postcard worthy. Lush green mountains in the summer and snow capped small mountains in the winter.

That sounds like a nice weekend getaway :)

I love New England, and it is one thing I do miss, having moved to the West Coast (Reno). My parents had a vacation home in the Berkshires, near Great Barrington, MA.

When I think of Minneapolis, I think of Prince.

I grew up in Columbus and went to OSU then moved to Cincinnati. Funny that those two cities are on your list.

For all of the bad reputation that Cleveland gets, I love it up along the lake and some of the areas east of the city, so if I was going to move somewhere else in Ohio that is where I would like to live.

Another favorite place is San Diego - beautiful with a near perfect climate.

I love Jackson Hole, Wyoming - spectacular scenery.

reply

I'm from Dayton and love those two places. I've only been to Cleveland a couple times. And Wyoming is pretty.
