A Serbian Film

reply

^ will avoid those, for me would be

the human centipede
se7en (i saw it waaay too young)
some romanian(?) film about vampires that was bootlegged and looked horrific.

reply

As messed up as Dogtooth is, it actually makes you think. I would recommend.

skip

Jacob's Ladder- the only movie I really considered for a moment to ask the manager for a refund.

reply

I see it once but I loved it.

reply

90% of the contrived plot never happened, for me a colossal waste of time.

reply

You think a Fictional Movie is supposed to be something other than a contrived plot?
Gulliver's Travels wasn't very realistic, smh.
Watch Documentaries, for gosh sake's.

reply

It is when the whole movie is a dream sequence and all the Elizabeth's Pena role never happened.

reply

dogtooth & irreversible are big favourites of mine. man bites dog is definitely dark & twisted, but i've always found it a bit of a chore to get through.

the most messed up films i can think of off the top of my head:

sweet movie
salo
in the realm of the senses

i'm going out for a walk. if anything random pops into my head, i'll edit them in later...

reply

I've been tempted to watch Salo to see what all the hype is about.

reply

it's got stuff in it that would absolutely disgust and sicken any reasonable person.

but...y'know, i think it's worth watching at least once. i think it's got merit, things to recommend in it.

reply

Salo is another one I’ve always stayed away from because of its reputation.

reply

it's definitely not a film to be watched on a full stomach or during your pizza and movie with friends night.

reply

Angst (1983)
Nekromantik (1987)
House (1977)

reply

House??? That’s not messed up. It’s like a sweet dream. 😀

reply

it certainly is the funniest entry in the list ;)

reply

What a great film! 💯👍💯👍

reply

angst is a good call

reply

I'm in the minority, but I really don't like House.

reply

It's weird, but layered. For every metaphor you get, the ride turns a bit darker.

reply

Very Bad Things (1998)
Arlington Road (1999)
The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015)

reply

"Very Bad Things". Or as I like to call it: "A Series of Unfortunate Events."

reply

A Serbian Film (2010)
The Girl Next Door (2007) - It may be the true story part of it that bothers me
Bloodsucking Freaks (1976) or Men Behind the Sun (1988)

All of your picks would be in my top ten

reply

I still haven’t watched A Serbian Film and I’ve been told it’s best not to. 😳

Oh, and I don’t think I want to watch Men Behind the Sun either. I did a lot of reading on Unit 731 in the 2000’s. It’s horrible.

reply

I saw A Serbian Film and I thought it was more comical and silly than anything, but I suppose it comes down to how desensitised you are to stuff.

Cannibal Holocaust on the other hand is something that bothered me and a film I'd not watch again due to the animal cruelty.

reply

It’s like the mondo films of the day meshed with the Italian cannibal and jungle adventure genres. Strange times indeed.

reply

When I watched A Serbian Film the first time, it was at the end of a binge of the most disturbing movies I could find, and it was just too much. The subject matter is disturbing and it is relentless. It stuck with me most than some of the others. I've since revisited it and had no reaction to it, but I think that what one finds disturbing can vary greatly on one's mood at the time.

reply

I wouldn't recommend either of them. I went through a phase where I sought out the most disturbing films I could find. I don't recommend doing that either, and especially not during a short period of time.

reply

A Serbian Film is good to watch if you're interested to see a film really walk the line of obscene.

reply

You're sick. Just kidding, I've seen them too.
