What’s your favourite film franchise?

For me it’s Rocky. I saw Creed recently (which I thought was fantastic) and it made me think how happy it makes me every time there is a new instalment in this long running series of films, and how superior that film is to most franchises on their seventh instalment. Perhaps it’s because the star has always been so heavily involved in all aspects of filming (acting, producing, writing and even direction) but these films always feel genuine and heartfelt to me. Even the lesser instalments (4 and 5 specifically) are entertaining and stand up to most other franchises. The funny thing is I’m not even a fan of boxing, but I adore the character of Rocky and will inevitably be cheering from my seat at the end of each film.

My daughter is old enough to watch these now (she loves superheroes), so we've started watching them in the suggested viewing order (according to AMC): -
Captain America (2011)
Captain Marvel (2019)
Iron Man (2008)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Hulk (2008)
Thor (2011)
Avengers (2012)
Thor: Dark World (2013)
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017)
Iron Man 3 (2013)
Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
This is where we're up to - still to come:-
Ant-Man (2015)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Black Panther (2018)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Doctor Strange (2016)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018)
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

nice. i've seen too many of the films recently to do a full marathon myself, i think. in fact, i just watched infinity war last weekend, & i'm probably going to watch endgame tomorrow, for the first time since the theatres.

but i'm gonna tentatively pencil in a beginning to end watch some time this year. maybe in the summer when it gets too miserable and hot to do anything.

reply

This will be the first time that I’ve seen them since their original run (except Infinity War, which is in my all time favourites). So far, they all still stand up - Captain Marvel is better than I remembered.

reply

captain marvel is the only mcu film i've only seen once, & it's one of the 3 that i don't really like much. but now that i'm on d+, i'll give it another chance one of these days too. maybe it'll pleasantly surprise me.

reply

It's tough. I'm going to say the Mission: Impossible series. Part 2 sucks and 3 is okay, but 1, 4, 5 and 6 are all great. I do enjoy the Evil Dead and Toy Story franchises as well.

reply

Most franchises get ruined with lame and needless sequels, so I'll go with Planet of the Apes, I loved the original three movies, didn’t care for the next few or the Burton movie, but I really like the recent trilogy.

reply

Bond movies. Not that I’m a huge fan but it’s run for over 50 years so I respect that.

reply

The Star Wars trilogy.

reply

Original Trilogy only, obviously.

reply

Are there other Star Wars movies besides the three made in the 70s and 80s???

reply

I'd have to go with James Bond.

But I love the original Star Wars and MCU as well.

reply

All of my favorites have a bad entry or more in them so it is hard to say. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Bond, etc ... they all have bad ones that spoil the soup but I guess those three are my top ones.

i love Friday the 13th.. it's the dumbest guilty pleasure of mine.
Jason FTW

and watching Alien 1,2 & 3 as a trilogy.
