The Man Who Would Be King (1975) vs Jaws (1975)

Which is better? I re-watched The Man Who Would Be King last night and it is a fine adventure movie. I would still give the edge to Jaws.

I have no desire to rewatch The Man because of the ending. Although effectively Jaws ended my love of ocean water skiing it was a great date movie back in the day as I lied about seeing it before.

what's wrong with the ending?

reply

I'm not a fan of movies that kill off the leading man, let him walk away like Ethan Edwards.

reply

i thought he had it coming. ethan edwards had some redeeming qualities.

The Man Who Would Be King is a very good movie, but it has to be Jaws (which makes my all-time top 5).

reply

Jaws.

Jaws, hands down, end of sentence, period.

have you seen the other one?

reply

Yes I have. It's good, but not as good as Jaws imho.

BOTH GREAT...JAWS IS GREATER.

Jaws is the better MOVIE, The Man Who Be King is the better story.

reply

not a bad way of putting it.

The Man Who Would Be King - I love ripping yarns and The Man Who Would Be King is one of the best, it's one of those few adaptions that is better than the book, it adds so much more to Kipling’s short story, which wasn’t a joy to read at all.

Caine, Connery and Jaffrey give excellent performances masterfully directed by John Huston, this film has aged well, much like Connery’s next film Robin and Marian.

I pick this just ahead of Jaws, which itself is an amazing film but my love for The Man Who Would Be King outweighs it.
