Is it safe and OK to buy used mobile phones?

I want to buy a discontinued BOSCH 909 phone but will it work and be OK if I were to purchase it on eBay? Thank you.

And also health-wise, is it safe to buy used and second hand phones?

reply

Your IMEI private certificate cannot be really considered private any more, when buying a used phone.
As long as you're not booked on the same physical network at the same time, you won't ever notice it.
Possible security risk? On GSM? Yes.

reply

What is that certificate and what is the risk here?

reply

If it's discontinued the technology may not be compatible with updated apps.

reply

So, simply put, its best then not to buy that phone, right?

reply

I don't know much about these things im affraid. I suppose it depends what you want it for. If you just want to call and text there shouldn't be a problem. But if you want apps too, they may not work as these get updated often to match the technology of newer devices. If the device is too out of date, some apps just won't work.

In a nutshell, I better save money.

Last time I bought an item of an almost disused brand of Motorola tablet that was advertised as NEW and paid good money for it. Turns out it was defunct.

reply

First thing, the phone is 20 years old. What do you expect? Battery is probably going to be very weak or dead. Health wise? What kind of question is this? Have you ever had some money? Or been in public places where people walk, eat etc? Or you just trolling?

reply

Well, maybe the risk is at best very small, but I wonder if one can get diseases however small from items but probably not.

Having said that, since the aforementioned tablet I bought at the time did NOT work which was advertised as new, then a phone that is over 20 years old is liable to work even less so I better save money.

It may not be "dangerous" but not recommended to buy mostly used stuff.
