Do you 🚲 ??

Do you or would you ride a bike in the winter? I mean if you get snow where you live? I don't and I never will. It seems very dangerous to me due to often slippery conditions for both the rider and vehicles. It just wasn't done when I was growing up. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

reply

I'm Dutch, so yeah, all the time.

reply

AND IN WOODEN SHOES HOLDING TULIPS NO LESS.πŸ€—

reply

I sold a tulip to a Dutch person once.

reply

Obviously.

reply

Well, you're not dealing with hills much, right? But even then, snow, slush, ice, etc. makes in treacherous, I think. Or do you have snow tires on your bike? Studded tires? Or just regular ones?

reply

Regular tires. I don't like riding through snow, my sister made a nasty fall not too long ago and dislocated her finger. You always have to be careful.

reply

I believe the Dutch have a more bike-friendly infrastructure, right?

reply

That's correct.

reply

I wish we'd get on board with that here. Supposedly, my state, Minnesota, is #3 on the list of most bike-friendly states, behind Washington and Oregon.

reply

I haven't ridden a bike in years. When I was a kid, I rode in the winter all the time. We would ride on snow embankments and do jumps off of them. No one wore a helmet in those days either.

reply

I do ride occasionally. I still have the Schwinn bike I got in sixth grade. And yes, I grew up in pre-helmet days. Heck, even my kids were riding when helmets just started being the new safety standard. We never even thought of riding bikes in the snow and I don't know anyone who did back in the "olden days."

reply

Not since I was a kid! Always wanted to ride a penny-farthing though.

reply

Those were very cool looking but can you imagine the injuries?!

A bit too crazy for me

reply

Yeah and on old cobbled roads too!

reply

And NO helmet rules
The 1880s people were totally nuts 😁

reply

How can you wear a helmet AND a top hat old boy? 🧐

reply

You're right dear chap
A helmet would interfere with my monocle and we can't have that

reply

It's just not cricket! What!🏏

reply

i love biking, but never in the winter. it's always seemed insanely hazardous to me.

i parked my mountain bike all last year because i was tired of putting so much money into it every year. i am itching to get it fixed now & get out on the road come spring.

reply

Sounds like a good plan!

reply

We used to have white winters around here, but not anymore, so I see a lot of people on bikes. Thank you global warming?

reply

I can understand riding in the winter if there's no snow, but otherwise? Nope. I also think it must be really cold riding a bike in winter.
