What character is truly living their slasher life to the fullest? Is it Norman Bates? Michael, Jason, Freddy? I've always been torn between Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger, but lately Chucky has become a true favorite. So what'ya think? What character epitomizes the slasher genre?
to me, the texas chainsaw massacre is still the greatest slasher, and that's the movie i think of when i try to picture a film that is sort of the template, even ideal of what a great slasher can be.
that said, almost all the tcm sequels are pretty pants, though i remember really enjoying the 80s one with dennis hopper.
if you go by which character had the best batting average, the greatest number of good films...i think i'd have to give the nod to nightmare, i guess? though i think friday 4 though 6 are pretty enjoyable films too.
Leatherface is an excellent choice. The original film is terrifying, and I like part 2. I even like the 2003 remake, but there were quite a bit of crappy sequels as well.
ah, you know what? i liked that 2003 remake quite a bit too. i'd completely blanked on it for some reason. the taint of leatherface & texas chainsaw 3d must have pushed that relatively good film out of my memory.
The film that follows the '03 remake, "The Beginning," is probably my least favorite. It makes the one with McConaughey and Zellweger seem good, which it's not.
Don't take this the wrong way but a lot of Freddy's kills involve silly stuff. Like blowing a girl's head up like a baloon, turning a girl into a cockroach, turning a kid into a comic illustration, and putting a kid into a video game.
I'll give it to Jason though just cause he has killed more people than the rest.
No offense taken. I am not personally Freddy Krueger...or am I? But yes, he's probably the killer who has the broadest tonal range of his films. Some are scary, a lot are silly. Jason is a fine choice. His story has kind of a cool evolution, going from being a merely a secondary character, to a guy living in the woods with a pillowcase on his head, to an undead beast in a hockey mask. He's kind of like the Xenomorph from Alien, where the details of his Mythos are constantly being redefined.
Yeah. His origin is very vague. It is funny how in Part 2 he is rather short and then the makers of Part 3 decided to make him bigger. And then he just stayed big the rest of the series.
THE CORRECT ANSWER IS...JASON VOORHEES...THE MOST FILMS OVER THE LONGEST TIMEFRAME...ONLY THING THAT COULD RIVAL THE HOCKEY MASK FOR TOP ICON IS MAYBE FREDDY'S GLOVE...ADD IN THE ICONIC MUSICAL STING AND THE MACHETE...EASY ANSWER IN MY BOOK.
