Sailing by Christopher Cross, yea or nay?

https://youtu.be/Sopm3ou_XEA

I find this song hypnotic and soothing, but I can see how it could come off as schmaltzy.

reply

To me Christopher Cross' musical output was a small step above elevator music.

Perfect for the yachts we all have.

reply

Boring song from a wimpy artist. Yet this won three Grammy Awards in 1980. Go figure.

reply

I own the album it is on (his self-titled debut album) and like it more than a little bit. The other hit song on the album is Ride Like the Wind

Oh I like that. I'd heard it before but never connected the two songs.

reply

I say yea. He's a great counterbalance to people like Pantera and Slipknot.

reply

I have it on a playlist that helps me sleep. That's not a bad thing.

reply

Schmaltzy, yes, for sure!
But it's kind of nice and nostalgic, I must have heard this a hundred times on my Mom's kitchen radio growing up

I like it👍

It is nice and romantic driving along with your Lady listening to the slow nostalgic jams...Just don't try to sing along!
I've nearly been thrown out of my own car trying😬

yacht rock radio!!

reply

Programmed in right next to OZZY'S BONEYARD! and Hair Nation on my dashboard

reply

I love Yacht Rock

reply

Funny, I like it too though I can't exactly describe the genre

I guess '70s easy listening'..?
I have it on my Sat Radio in my car, good stuff!

reply

It's certain Soft Rock bands/songs from the 70s, and Allmusic says early 80s as well. I wouldn't call it Easy Listening (even though it kind of is) because Easy Listening is a genre that includes vocals and instrumentals like that of Frank Sinatra.

I think the Canadian group The Cooper Brothers would qualify. They had a couple of great songs back in the 70s
