Electric cars is coming

"President-elect Biden recently said, 'I believe that we can own the 21st century car market again by moving to electric vehicles.' We at General Motors couldn't agree more," the letter reads. "We are inspired by the President-elect's Build Back Better plan which outlines a clear intention to expand vehicle electrification in the United States, create one million jobs, install 550,000 charging stations and position American auto workers and manufacturers to win the race for electrification."

This is long overdue. Switching to electric vehicles has so many benefits; this should have been done years ago.

US debt has been skyrocketing the last two decades.

So... now even more debt to finance the change to electric car! Yeepee! What could go wrong?

reply

Most people won't be able to afford them at 40k to 50k each. That means less traffic for me.

Hopefully it will be a global financial conundrum to overcome, right?

GM already announced back in the summer that they would stop production of gas powered vehicles in 2030. It was the trend with or without a Biden administration.

I'm not disputing the merits of electric vehicles, but gas wont go away until at least 2040 - 45. There will be too many gas powered cars, trucks, boats, RV's around for them to just magically disappear overnight.

reply

True. The things that have really advanced human existence didn't come from governments, it came from science and technology. While governments can help trends along, ultimately the real changes are in wide adoption by consumers.

But grammar is still far in the distance.

Electric cars is coming? Really?

reply

Yes they is, lol.

Oh be nice his trying he’s best

Read the other day that GM wants to make 30 new electric cars in the next five years. I'm all for electric cars, but could GM focus on making 1 or 2 decent vehicles first before committing to 30 lol. Company stopped making quality vehicles 20 years ago.

So is I.

Gas powered vehicles are not going anywhere.

I support electric vehicle research. It needs to come much further along before I buy one. It is great that they are as advanced as they are but they are money sinks and still more of a novelty than some major boon to the environment. Nothing wrong with there being more and more of them but making them the rule doesn't match up with the reality of how the world economic machine runs.
