If there is some stupid reason they need to have this, at the very least it should be off to the side and not right below drive and so easy to accidentally shift to. I am constantly driving and hear the high revving and realize I’m in that mode which I never use.
Manual is more fun and powerful but the Auto trans is just so easy-peasy for everyday driving...I've owned at least 15 cars and only had two with manual trannies
LOL - My Miata is an automatic, (l-o-n-g story why I got it on this one, last one was manual), but it has paddle shifters, so you use the shifter knob to put it into a manual shift position and then shift gears on the steering wheel. Certainly not the same experience as clutching, but it can be fun.
My Mini Countryman is a steptronic and doesn’t have a D3 mode, BMW kept it simple: put it in D for forwards or R for reverse.
Although quite why there’s both ‘park’ and ‘neutral’ bewilders me: they both do the same thing so what’s the point?
I can’t see a single reason why anyone would want to use ‘N’, if you don’t want the car to roll away at lights or something then leave it in drive and put the handbrake on and the car will happily sit there till you’re ready to go again.
Neutral helps as a barrier between drive and reverse also. If you knock your stick into reverse while driving forward you can fuck the gearbox quicksmart. Most newer cars have that sort of step gear change where it would be near impossible to change gears by accident though.
My auto has 1 and 2 below drive. I don't have a D3. Ive knocked it into 2 by accident a few times, thought my car was fucked lol. Reving out at like 30 k's. I never use the settings, I'm glad they're though though.
