Borat

How do they not know he’s an actor by now ?

reply

I haven't seen the new movie yet but doesn't he wear disguises for that very reason? That's what I've heard anyway.

reply

He wore the same disguise in the first movie which made 200 million dollars .

reply

No, I mean the CHARACTER wears disguises so he's not recognised as Borat, but maybe I have that wrong.

reply

No he’s always borat

reply

Oh, ok. The wiki plot overview lead me astray:

"Borat is transported across the world in a circuitous route by cargo ship and arrives in Texas, where he finds he is a celebrity. Wanting to maintain a low profile, Borat purchases multiple disguises."

reply

Oh tim

I've never seen anything Borat other than the occasional clip of his antics, but I do wonder why some folks have no idea what he's about. Just how gullible are they???

reply

Right !

It always makes me think of the old fogies we have in the US congress who have no idea about modern technology and apps. And they're supposed to legislate technology companies, internet privacy regulations, etc? Ridiculous! And a lot of them make no effort to learn about it!

(Sorry for delving into the political thing.)

Well, I remember one Ali G segment explained. Ali G acts like he is one of the camera crew, and a respectable looking guy appears to be in charge. Then at the last second, Ali G steps in and does the interview, thus catching the subject off guard.

I'm sure they have other techniques as well. For example, you would think by now people would be suspicious that it was an "Undercover Boss" episode, but they manage to trick the employees.

I can sort of see where something like that situation would throw an interview subject off, especially if it is a person who is not familiar with "TV" interviews.

The majority of Americans have never seen a Borat film, I'm sure the conservative American rumor mill correctly labeled the first film as something they wouldn't like and didn't pay to see it. Because yes, it was out to mock ordinary American schlubs and expose their dark side, and hold them up to the world's contempt. So the sort of person that Cohen has targeted with the first "Borat" film is unlikely to have seen it, unless they were actively out looking for something to feel outraged over.

As you might guess I hated the first "Borat" film. I'm not a conservative and dislike conservatives heartily, but I also despise people who "punch down" - who target people with far less wealth and influence than themselves, and that's all that was in the first movie. At least Cohen redeemed himself somewhat by going after Guiliani in the second one, and landing punch, but I'm not going to see it. Cohen just isn't funny.
