Things that don't make sense.

- "Photo" and "photography" start with "ph" but "footage" doesn't.

- How can "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing?

- Led Zeppelin's song "Houses of the Holy" doesn't appear on their album "Houses of the Holy".

- If you put chocolate into warm milk it's known as a "hot chocolate" but putting chocolate into cold milk isn't called "cold chocolate".

How the hell is "Dick" short for "Richard"?

reply

Put the "d" in "Richard" in the front, drop the "r", a" "r" and you are left with "dich". Now drop the "h" and add a "k", and presto. It pretty obvious and not a stretch if you ask me.

reply

My cousin didn't like her husband, Richard, to be called "Dick." 😲

He went by "Rich" to most people.

Why is a Charlie short for Charles?
Charles - one syllable, 7 letters
Charlie - two syllables, 7 letters
And yet.......?

reply

Same with "Chuck" for Charles. Where did that come from?

reply

As the old saying goes: don't trust letters.

It's not really an old saying but I'm just going with it.
