One I’ve heard a lot about, but I’ve never seen, on your list is Ginger Snaps. I’ll try to check it out soon.

reply

I thought this was a good take on it.

reply

Thanks for the link. I’ll let you know when I watch it, and hopefully soon. :)

reply

I think I will also add High Tension (2003) to my list. I know the twist is really WTF, but aside from that I really like the rest of the movie.

reply

Have you watched Iced yet???

reply

No, it’s still on my list and I have read some entertaining reviews of it though. It looks like it’s right up my alley. The more obscure the better for me.

reply

I watched it last night. I thought it was an 80’s slasher but it had that 90’s feel with the way it was shot and all, and after I saw it was 89’. There were lots of homages to other slashers and my favorite was the Shining moment when the dude comes through the door. Crazy story and I loved the final girl. I heard this one is only available on VHS so I might start looking for it. If you have any other obscure recommendations please let me know.

reply

Great, now that you've seen it, maybe you can explain the story to me!😆

The killer was the dead guy's friend, stayed at the same resort and actually witnessed his death, but none of the others knew about him???

Also, what was up with the sex fantasy scene in the bathtub? They were getting all hot and heavy, but the guy was just sitting there motionless while fantasizing? Was he gay or something? Was he in love with his friend and is that why he was so upset???

reply

So the guy who died in the beginning was straight but had a gay friend who wanted to hook up with him. That’s why he didn’t tell all his friends about him. That’s what I thought anyway.

What was up with the asshole drug guy. I mean, did he rape the dark headed girl? That was one crazy movie and it’s kind of complicated for a slasher. Lol

I just checked EBay and the only VHS copy is 150.00. 😳

reply

150??? The movie ain't that good!

Asshole drug guy was a creep! Why would I want to see his naked ass?!

And how about that digging machine scene, huh??? The guy was just laying there as if he wanted to be crushed to death!

I think you already saw the other horror movies I recently watched. The only other obscure movies I know of are two Bollywood musical slashers, one of them also set at a ski resort.

reply

Another one people don’t talk about much is Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1983). Have you seen it?

reply

After Iced I'm kind of scared to go down the rabbit hole of obscure horror movies!😄

reply

Well, if you decide to take a leap I highly recommend this one.

reply

“ he wanted to be crushed to death!”

Lol there’s many bizarre things going on in that movie.

reply

These are my favorites, not necessarily what I think are the best horror films, which is why I omit a film like The Exorcist. I have no problem admitting it is the best horror film ever made but it is in no way a favorite. I don't consider Jaws as horror, though I know many who do. And this list would not be the same as my favorite 'Halloween' movies. Not in any particular order:
1. The Shining
2. The Haunting 1963
3. Alien
4. The Thing 1982
5. The Picture of Dorian Gray 1945
6. Trick R Treat
7. Fright Night 1985
8. An American Werewolf in London
9. Zombieland
10. Carrie 1976
11. Rosemary's Baby 1968
12. The Conjuring
13. Psycho 1960
14. The Birds
15. Se7en
16. The Omen 1976
17. Night of the Demon 1957
18. Halloween 1978
19. Scream
20. Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978
21. Cabin in the Woods
22. The Thing From Another World
23. The Night Stalker 1972
24. A Nightmare on Elm St 1984
25. The Wicker Man 1973

reply

1. The Wicker Man (1973)
2. The Shining
3. The Descent
4. High Tension
5. The People Under the Stairs
6. The Hills Have Eyes (remake)
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
8. Scream
9. Nightmare on Elm Street
10. 28 Days Later
11. Dawn of the Dead (remake)
12. Halloween (remake)
13. Dead End
14. Saw
15. Pontypool
16. The Exorcist
17. Safe Haven (vhs 2 segment)
18. The Omen 2
19. Hostel
20. Hostel 2
21. Cabin Fever

And that's really all I can think of...

reply

I think I would also add The Den (2013). It has it's flaws, but when it came out it did stand out in the found footage genre as something different, and Grave Encounters (2011)

Slaughterhouse(1987)
Graduation Day(1981)
Hellraiser(1987)

Backwoods(1987)
Slumber party Massacre (1982)
Final Exam(1981)
The Initiation(1984)
The Mutilator(1984)

reply

Your the first one to include Hellraiser. I don’t think I’ve seen it since it was released so it might be time for a rewatch.

reply

Completely inaccurate list that I’ve pulled out of my ass. Definitely a little zombie heavy but kind of varied. Not all are necessarily good but fun as Hell.

The Return of the Living Dead
Midsommar
Blood Diner
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Demons
Day of the Dead
Shawn of the Dead
28 Days Later
Candyman
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
Society
The Burning
New York Ripper
The Last Man on Earth
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
Bad Taste
Thankskilling
Jaws
Night of the Demons
Night of the Living Dead
The Stuff
Night of the Creeps
Santa’s Slay
Sessions 9

reply

Damn! You’ve got to give respect to someone that puts New York Ripper on their top 25! Quack, Quack.

reply

Fulci is usually just random shot happening and some great gore. New York Ripper feels like a complete story. Definitely my favorite of his. Quack!!!

reply

Santa’s Sleigh has a great cast!

reply

Hahahaha

reply

😉

reply

Yeah, great opening scene. Just a bunch of well known getting offed in short order.
Seems like a joke a minute n this movie and most of them hit for me.

reply

Session 9 is such a great, creepy movie.

reply

Indeed. Even the “fuck you” line somehow fits with the vibe.
