Bookshelves on TV

With COVID, many TV "personalities" are videotaped in front of a huge book shelf. Do you ever pause to check out what they have? I sometimes wonder if its not manufactured and changed to fit a certain narrative.

reply

All books and bookshelves are manufactured. How else would they get made?

reply

Handmade.

reply

Which is a form of manufacturing, a word derived from the latin root literally meaning made by hand.

reply

Magic. Look up Samantha Stephens.

reply

I promise not to ask what's on your bookshelf.

reply

I call shenanigans on the Covid Background Bookshelves and the ferns and 'Live Laugh Love' type wall hangers

...and I totally respect my coworkers who do our Zoom meetings with their homes looking like a messy hellscape in the background😆

reply

Right they'll never have controversial books even though they're the best ones usually.

reply

Yes I do and it induces much eye rolling.

reply

What, you doubt that Jack Black has body building and yoga manuals on his bookshelves🤗

reply

Lol. I notice it more with politicians and journalists.

reply

Same

reply

I noticed a lot of them look like homeless weirdos with really messy hair and unkempt beards. Are they so used to stylist and make up people doing everything for them that they don't even know how to shave themselves or brush their hair?

reply

I doubt they even brush their teeth.

reply

As a kid I was always a bit disappointed when the books in Ikea display rooms turned out to be fake.

reply

I'm more dissapointed with the fake computers.

reply

There were no computers when I was a kid.

reply

I need more books in here! Send more books! I got another dog bite case!

reply

Many of them have their own books prominently displayed. I notice that the books tend to be mostly nonfiction, scholarly and very NYRB. Thst being said, journalists covering beats like politics and government are often given books to read in advance of interviews.

reply

Yup
