Social media is now flooded with posts promoting murdering pedophiles

Like, I get it. You have kids, if someone harmed them you would have no qualms about taking justice into your own hands. But why are pedophiles suddenly not entitled to due process because people have personal emotional reservation about them? Every crime, no matter how heinous, must be tried in the court of law. Oh, but except pedophiles, hang them in the public square and draw and quarter them. People are idiots, it’s just the hot button issue right now.

60 minutes Australia had a great piece about "pedophile park" a place in Florida where pedophiles are forced to live. Because of very pro business policies in FLA, landlords can deny a person for any reason (except I think race). The result is that they are hearded on to a island like trailer park.

What I find interesting is that pedophiles have reached such scorn in the USA that the story was too hot to handle for 60 minutes USA to broadcast.

I think it is still available to watch on YouTube.

There is a cover piece in The Economist a few years back called "America's Unjust Sex Laws"

The article talks about the "ratchet effect" that politicians have on sex laws. Since politicians don't want to appear weak on this subject, they harshen the laws every year. The result is that judges are handcuffed in taking circumstances into account and have mandatory prison sentences.

They gave a example of a 18 year old high school senior who was caught by a adult teacher getting a BJ by a 16 year old high school junior. The 18 year old now is a registered sex offender for a period of 8 years and is a convicted felon.

I completely agree with you. Everyone accused of any crime, including sexual offences, should be innocent until proven guilty and be given a fair trial. The posts people do wanting to kill pedophiles don't do any good and just promote hatred and violence.

Bad idea...We did the 'vigilante thing' quite frequently here in the US a couple of generations ago and it's very likely that we strung up or tortured innocent people

Due Process is the best option we have...unless your name is Bronson, Russell or Eastwood in which case anything goes📺

Shit, I almost agree. Due process is paramount. But if it was proved beyond doubt, and a family member of mine was abused, I don't know how I would react. Probably violently. And I would do my time for the retribution.

The pedophile killing bandwagon is a easy wagon to jump on. And I get the frustration. These offenders don't get looked up for nearly as long as they deserve. Plus if they have been caught once, they have most likely been offending more than that, and for much longer.

No, sorry he never supported them. What he is talking about is due process being denied. Imagine if you were charged with a crime you didn't commit and then saw your face on the front page of a newspaper? Even if you were found innocent, you would forever be known as guilty.

It's scary to be honest. A few years ago in Australia there was a guy who was accused on Facebook of being a child molester, all he did was take a selfie near a Darth Vader statue but there were kids around so the idiot who took the photo jumped to a huge conclusion. He went through hell and had to see the Police.

There was also a case where a couple of white knights decided to go around to their female friends place to sort out the man she said had raped her. So they go there and beat a guy to death, the wrong guy.

We're going to get lynch mobs again. And we have seen with #metoo that men will be denied due process and tried by media.
