Since you left me if you see me with another girl
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute
She's just a substitute…because
You’re the permanent one
I'm serious. I usually start with singing the lyrics in my head. I think I have to tune to this one, so that helps, but maybe I don't and that's why I can't place it. They are very familiar, but that doesn't mean I know it. I just get annoyed because my memory is usually rooted in music, like if I was studying, I always had music on, and then when I was stuck, I'd hum and it would come to me.
… Givin' me head on the unmade bed
While the limousines wait in the street
Those were the reasons that was New York
We were runnin' for the money and the flesh
And that was called love for the workers in song
Probably still is for those of them left
Don’t know much of the Cohen catalog but always liked this one…and it fit the theme
And apparently it’s not about what I originally thought it was about….or there’s more to the story/song. Supposedly, Cohen and Janis Joplin had a thing— this may have been news or common knowledge but I didn’t know. Shyt, when this song came out I was sipping on Similac . I wasn’t exposed to Cohen until much later…
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Baby
My heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning out of control
So come on satisfy the need in me
'Cause only your good lovin' can set me freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Why is the bedroom so cold
You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed
Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives……………………………
