Shaolin Soccer (2001)
It's a Hong Kong sport comedy. Quentin Tarantino recommended it.

reply

Sounds interesting. I will have to check it out.

reply

I love this film.

reply

Me too. Kung Fu Hustle was good too, but Shaolin Soccer is funnier

reply

Of the films on your list, I own only one, The Court Jester.
Two other lesser known comedies that I own which are not listed are ...
One, Two, Three (1961)
Let It Ride (1989)

reply

I've seen One, Two, Three (1961) and enjoyed it, rating it 8/10. I don't think I have seen Let It Ride (1989), but I have heard about it. It looks like it might be good.

reply

Yes, A-Man, Let it Ride, not bad at all....I sometimes forget Richard Dreyfuss has comedic chops, and I don’t know why since most of what I like from him are his comedies —The Goodbye Girl (1977) and Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986) to name a few....

reply

I wouldn't call One, Two, Three a lesser known movie. It's not Some Like it Hot or The Apartment, but it's a highly praised classic comedy.

A few ones:

■ Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010), one of my favorite movies. It's (in my extremely humble opinion) the fucking perfect horror comedy.
■ Ava's Possessions (2015). What happens after having being possessed by a demon? This movie answers that question with good comedy and a couple of twists.
■ Easy A (2010), a comedic take on The Scarlet Letter. Great writing.
■ Grabbers (2012), a creature feature movie with a funny twist: the only thing that protects you from the monster is being drunk.
■ Las brujas de Zugarramurdi (2013), the first 45 minutes are pure comedy gold.
■ Frostbite (2006). An Scandinavian vampire horror comedy. Nice, and underrated.
■ Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) & Freaks of Nature (2015), both are quite similar. More (good) horror comedy.
■ Ugly Americans (TV Series 2010-2012). Animated series. Incorrect, fun as hell and sadly cancelled in the second season.

reply

I enjoyed Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It was a lot of fun. I've seen Easy A and liked it. Haven't seen the others.

reply

Greedy (1994)....love the ending....

reply

Good funny movie. Yes, great ending!

reply

Not sure if this would be considered “lesser known“, probably to some of my more insular compatriots, but I liked Toni Erdmann (2016), though it was loooong....it was quirky but damn funny, to me at least....like I said don’t know if it’s lesser known; after all, it was nominated for best foreign at the oscars...I thought I read somewhere that there was talk for an American remake, with possibly Jack Nicholson as the lead....I’ll have to look that up, might be interesting, but then again, might be a bad idea....

reply

I haven't seen Toni Erdmann yet, but have been meaning to. It is somewhat well known with over 42,000 votes on imdb, rave reviews, and numerous award nominations.

reply

Yeah, like I said, those in the know definitely know about it, but certain Americans have probably never heard of it or bothered to find out about it...I’m lucky, I live in a town with a few independent theaters that show these types of movies....

reply

that's something i kicked off my list, cuz i figured that it was fairly well known. certainly got lots of acclaim the year it was released.

i don't think i've ever been in a theatre where people laughed as hard & as many times as they did at toni erdmann.

reply

I enjoyed Murder Made Easy. dude bro party massacre 3 was a lot of fun. I haven't seen the others you mentioned yet.

reply

they all made me laugh, but i have to single out love and friendship for some praise, as it is one of my favourite films of recent years, & has a character who truly made me lol every time he was on the screen.

happiness is one of my favourite films. it is very dark and evil, but if your tastes run to the blackest humor, you might enjoy it.

Some of those are pretty well known. I enjoyed The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, rating it an 8/10. I didn't like Bad Santa and didn't find it funny. Bullets Over Broadway was good, an 8/10. I didn't think Drowning Mona was very good. I have Election on Criterion blu ray. Great film. I thought The Party sucked, a 4/10. Pretty Persuasion was good. Team America - World Police was pretty funny in a crazy, outrageous way. I liked This Is Spinal Tap.

reply

I agree regarding Bad Santa. Deeply unfunny.
