Last week I started a Green Day thread. This weekend I'm on a one eighty two kick. Listening to Buddah atm.

shareLove them and have all their albums.
shareI hate both bands, greatly. Wanna-be, corporate, commercial punk.
shareYOURE REFERRING TO THEIR LATTER ALBUMS...BOTH GREEN DAY AND BLINK 182 SPENT AT LEAST A DECADE ROCKING HARD AS GENUINE PUNK/ALT ROCK BEFORE SIGNING MAJOR LABEL DEALS AND EVENTUALLY ALTERING THEIR MUSIC TO APPEAL TO A LARGER AUDIENCE.
shareso true.
shareThey were both very much Johnny come latelys that didn't at all embody what Punk really was all about which was basically a movement that could even be called a protest of "commercial rock", etc. One of the factors that it was built on was basically, "anyone can do it" and if you do, you're not special. Strap a guitar on and let it rip. In that regard, grunge was more in line with that ideology than "modern", pseudo punk.
Of course it morphed into what it is today, after the music industry smelled money. They became special. And so it goes.
GREEN DAY FORMED IN 87,BLINK IN 92...ALONG WITH BANDS LIKE BAD RELIGION,PENNYWISE,RANCID,ETC WERE/ARE THE NEW GENERATION OF PUNK/ALT/ROCK...THEY WERE NEVER ADVERTISED AS THE SOCIAL MESSAGE/NO MESSAGE(CHAOS) ORIGINAL PUNK STYLE...COMPARING THEM WOULD BE LIKE COMPARING THE BEATLES AND AC/DC...ONE DOESNT EXIST WITHOUT THE OTHER BUT THEY ARE DIFFERENT BEASTS.
shareFavorite band, Green Day and Blink 182 are my top two bands honestly, I'm a huge fan of 90s/2000's pop punk and listen to the genre almost daily. I wish I went to Warped Tour before they shut down though, that would of been a fun experience.
shareYEAH,I HAVE ALL THE CD AND DVD VOLUMES...NEVER MADE IT TO ONE IN PERSON THOUGH...WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING.🙂
sharethey played in my alley once. of course they werent big yet, but i had heard their music...
