It is a great song. My band and I used to play it back in the days.

reply

Cool, nice choice for your band...

reply

Between the catchy quality you mentioned, its popularity at the time and the fact that it was just easy to play made it a natural selection for our repertoire.

reply

musical taste is almost unfathomably variable.

i think this is a great tune. but otoh considered lots and lots of current music, and over the past few decades which is
loved by many and many here, is absolute trash.

but i don't comment on it, because its a downer and there's no disputing taste.

reply

I hear ya, JRiles, sometimes just better to leave well enough alone...

reply

Great song, I've always liked it!

But yeah, the guys do look kind of like tools, especially the lead singer with his heavy black shades. A good front man should play to the audience, he looks like he's trying to hide from them.

reply

Haha, yeah, I get it....but this one would be better described as tool-ish, if you will...

but you get to see Jeff Beck in a suit and tie....

I wouldn't get too worked up over whether someone likes one particular song, especially something as old as this. If neither of you can see it as an unimportant factor in the greater picture, things aren't being thought out very well.

I'm very familiar with this old chestnut, but it's never been a real favorite. Glad they had a big hit with it, though.

reply

Well, uh....yeah...uh....thanks, snepts ....it’s always good to meet a fan!

Cheers!

reply

Sorry if I rained on your parade, but you wanted thoughts.
I know the song is kind of iconic for a lot of people, but it never "felt right" to me. Pretty sure I'm in the minority but so be it.

Check this one out:

Sorry about the ad, I don't know how to leave those out.

reply

Aw, no prob, snepts, I appreciate the thoughts and time....it’s cool, it’s not for everybody, and, I admit, it’s kinda corny from a certain point of view, like when I did it for karaoke in front of friends, they though it was funny because I’m a terrible singer, it was more like Scaryaoke that night, lol...

Good times!

reply

Wow, never knew Fleetwood Mac covered it....pretty cool, thanks!

reply

i think it's a great track.

reply

I thought so also....what’s funny is she works in the music industry and has a healthy appreciation for the classics and the history of music....but that’s okay, probably got more worked up than usual because it was late, I was surprised she called, and she normally appreciates good music, but opinions vary, she gave her reasons, I can respect that....

I'm a fan of The Yardbirds, but not this song.

My favorites are
Heart full of soul
Over under sideways down
Stroll on
Happening 10 years ago time ago
Train kept a-rollin.

reply

Gettin’ in his licks, billy hicks, what’s up man?!?!?!

Good picks, the Yardbirds are such an important and seminal band that touched so many other parts of the music scene during their time....former members, my goodness, what a lineup, what a glimpse into what was on its way...
