What was the first movie to use shakey cam action?

Just watched MI-III (2006) today. Noticed the "shakey-cam" technique, one which uses close-ups combined with a unsteady fixed shot to convey action.

The bridge scene was a little much for me, started to get a little sea sick.

Does anyone know when this first started? Could you give a movie, year and director that created this style?

I'm going to say it started with the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan, then the Bourne Identity guys grabbed the idea and ran away with it.

a handheld cam is a shaky cam. those have been in use since 1958 with the beginning of the French New Wave.
