Lockdown Day 90 - I finally got round to watching Gone With The Wind

I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It could have done with a little more editing.

Have you ever read the book?

reply

Sadly, no.

reply

Over long and over-rated.

reply

I don’t understand why it’s held in such high esteem?

reply

color in 1939 was groundbreaking

reply

Yup, back then it was the bee’s knees for its time. Today it’s just old so movie nerds have to glorify it.

reply

Me neither. I never got it.

reply

Frankly my dear I don't give a damn.

reply

I’d probably get to it at around year 10 of lockdown. It just doesn’t pique my interest though I’m sure it’s a fine movie.

reply

I’ve decided to wade through the ‘100 films to see before you die’ list.

Gone With the Wind. It is one of my favorite films. Many people call the role played by the Black woman racist, but considering the film was made in 1939....... oh well.......

Don't give a shit what the morons in the PC Police say about it.

The opening theme never fails to get me misty-eyed

GWTW is a great movie and Margaret Mitchell was a great writer.

What does being made in 1939 have to do with it? What should have been done with black characters in a story set in the south during the Civil War and Reconstruction - totally dismiss there were slaves? Not have any black people in the story at all? Have every single black person mistreated constantly? Would that be satisfactory to some people?

But if made today perhaps they could be more realistic and include black slave owners in the movie. This is just one of them.

The Intermission always cracks me up.

I asked the missus if could dress up as an usherette and get me some ice cream, but she just rolled her eyes and carried on doing something socialmediary.

reply

That bitch!!

At about four hours long this movie could have used a lot of editing.
