Describing DVD/Blu Ray as 'obsolete'

Hey there,

I had this experience at work whereby I was sort of ridiculed for watching stuff on Blu Ray instead of streaming. The general attitude out there is that discs are 'obsolete' and streaming is the way modern, happening people should watch stuff.

This confuses me, because 90% of movies (probably more?) are not available to stream.

The question is, how can discs be considered obsolete when they are the only way to source 90% of movies? Are we supposed to ignore film history and just forget that all those movies exist?

The way I see it, the politically incorrect film list will grow. Other films will be edited for offensive content. Streaming makes this process incredibly easy.

Don't let the government or a company that is forced to bow to 'certain' groups tell you what movies are sanctioned to watch, which scenes are sanctioned to see, grow your DVD collection today.

It's a multi billion dollar industry.

Honestly? I prefer VHS tapes (which ARE obsolete) over DVD/Blu Ray...scratch it up and you have to go find a new one. Easy enough to do. But if it's rare?? Almost impossible.

Yeah, and streaming sounds better than vinyl, except that it doesn’t.

Convenience has always won out over fidelity in the consumer entertainment media market. This is why, for example, the VHS tape format won out over Betamax.

Most people have NO IDEA what quality audio and video fidelity can be.

I was able to hold onto my beta for a really long time before it finally crapped out. That was a really awesome machine.

I see what you mean, but I still need the disc to get the movie in the first place. The playback technique is different (a server), but ultimately the playback technique still begins with a disc, without which there is no movie.

I just watched the opening scenes of my favorite film, Conan the Barbarian, on streaming. Compared to watching it ON THE SAME SYSTEM on Blu-ray, it WW a like watching the shadows on Plato’s cave versus real life. As for the sound!? Forgitaboutit! Enjoy your convenience.

Physical media is where it’s at. Vinyl records, cassettes, VHS or DVD’s are the way to go if you value nostalgia and artwork. Also no one will ever be able just pull a certain title for whatever reason.
