Weird phone call
Yesterday evening I got a phone call from someone claiming to be my son. The caller had my name right, but unfortunately my son died when he was 10 years old!
Do you ever get phone calls like this??

Who knows where people get information anymore? So much is out there. I usually just hang up.
shareThat’s kinda fucked up.
shareThat's truly awful, sincere condolences
No, I never pick up the phone
This is very likely a scam call, trying to get money from you. It is much more commonly used on a purported grandparent (without even knowing if you have grandchildren.)
Per the Federal Trade Commission (USA)
"Scammers may pose as relatives or friends, calling or sending messages to urge you to wire money immediately. They’ll say they need cash to help with an emergency — like getting out of jail, paying a hospital bill, or needing to leave a foreign country. Their goal is to trick you into sending money before you realize it’s a scam.

Sounds like a pretty mean prank.
shareLike Monstar noted, it was probably the start of a scam. I have not had these calls, but several friends have. I don’t know how they get the name, but they pretend to be a child or grandchild calling with an urgent need for money.
shareThe levels scammers will go to! That must have been so upsetting, really sorry to hear you got that call. Some people have no soul.
shareI am so sorry
