I have an idea how to restart concerts

Now that concert audience seemingly only attend to record the concert using their phones, how about if concerts just sell tickets to recieve their phones by mail, sanitize them, and set them up individually in a bunch of tripods to record the musicians performing at the stage.

After it's done, they just need to send the phones back so all the customers can then post the recording to their favorite social media. Win win!

This is a crazy plan but...it just ... might work.

*stares off into the distance

A better idea: do concerts like we normally would, the only difference is that you want be allowed in unless you're wearing this: https://www.canadianpreparedness.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/wsi-imageoptim-IMG_2769.jpg

It's a different idea, but not necessarily better. Wearing those suits would hinder the audience's ability to record the concert using their phones, which is the main purpose of going in a concert. Also touchscreen would work weirdly (or even not at all) using those gloves. It's also a nightmare for the securities. What if there were terrorists among them? They could have had needles and use them to puncture other patrons en masse. That would be cathasthropic!

reply

Everyone has to pass through a metal detector and get frisked. After the concert is done, you get a copy mailed to you or a digital copy through email. It'll work dammit!

“to record the concert using their phones, which is the main purpose of going in a concert.”

You are joking, right?

reply

Do I look like I'm joking? Of course I am. The entire thread is a joke.

reply

Sad but true. We went to see tool last year and Maynard dicked on everyone for doing this. They were too busy with their phones to catch the joke.

reply

I like your idea. It works for movies, cruises and planes, too. There's even a business opportunity in redesigning them to look more stylish.

reply

It's a good idea, actionkamen, but certain aspects of the concert experience will be missed.

I went to a Ray Sawyer (of Dr. Hook fame) concert in the 90's. Ray delivered a decent first half, had a healthy amount of Carlsbergs in the bar during the break (I got his autograph on a beer coaster), went on stage with a huge joint in his hand. He got halfway through "Silvias Mother" before he puked and passed out. All in all a brilliant concert and hardly an experience you'd get via a smartphone.

reply

There were no cellphones back in the 90s.

reply

Yes there were, but their cameras were horrible and you couldn't record hours of video.

reply

The first mass-market camera phone was the J-SH04, a Sharp J-Phone model sold in Japan in November 2000.

There were no cameraphones in the 90s. Camcorders use tapes back then.

reply

But you didnt say cameraohones, you said cell ohones!

I swear I had a cell back in the late 90s.

reply

I did not say cellohones nor cameraohones.

reply

Well... no. Also Ray Sawyer died in 2018.

reply

You have to wear a mask at all times except when you're taking a toke from a joint.

reply

I don't think this is practical

reply

I was thinking human sized hamster balls.

reply

Err...

Or just pay for the ticket where you receive a special code that allows you to live stream it. Only those who paid for the code would be allowed to live stream it, which would expire after one use.

reply

But then you can't brag that you attend the concert because you can't upload the clip to your favorite social media for your friends to admire.

reply

None of this makes any sense whatsoever, because you would not have to mail them your phone for it to be recorded, which would be a huge waste of time and resources. They could literally record it and then send it your phone electronically without your phone required to be there.
