Is Anyone Getting Takeout?

Throughout this lockdown it seems most communities are promoting takeout from restaurants and fast food establishments but it just seems like a risk. People are preparing your food, packaging it and handing it to you. It seems like your food or it’s packaging could potentially be contaminated. My family and I haven’t gotten take out for this reason but when I pass these places they are always packed.

What does everyone think? Is there any reason why it’s not a risk?

reply

No, I don't get any takeouts. Like you said, it's an uneeded risk. I can live without fancy foods. As long as there is food on the table, I'm okay.

So far no take out for me.

Could go for a nice cheese pizza pie

Pizza comes out of the oven and put directly in the box....unless the cardboard box retains anything.

I’ve had Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, KFC, and Ice Cream, Coffee and Mexican from some local establishments.

With no work I use my money left in cooking myself. I did read about a closed strip joint where the strippers cook the meal ordered and will deliver it to you.

Every Sunday night - we're still alive.

Yes, several times. Fast food once, pizza twice, and a few dinners from nice restaurants. I always order online so no credit card or cash transactions. I do drive through or curbside pickup and when the bag is handed to me I place the bags on the seat and then sanitize my hands, so my steering wheel and things I touch inside my car stay clean.

When I get home, I remove the cartons from the bags and throw the bags away, wash my hands and remove the food from the containers and place it on my clean plates, place in a hot oven for 5 minutes. Throw the containers away and sanitize the countertop. Sounds a little more complicated than it is, but so far I feel comfortable doing it this way and from everything I've read, it's not very easy to get the virus from food itself.

Sounds like a good method. 👍

i've been picking up dinner from the indian restaurant down the street every friday since they closed the restaurants here last month. i follow a few simple cleaning protocols, pretty much as 102000 laid out in his post.

there's a bit of risk in doing that, certainly, but there's no such thing as zero risk, certainly not the way things are right now. & given that i'm basically isolated myself, the only person i'm really putting at risk is me.

I'm using Doordash.
