Which directors will front the “next era of Hollywood”?

Most great directors come in waves. The new era of Hollywood was fronted by Speilberg, Lucas, De Palma, Scorsese, Scott, Carpenter, Polinksi, Kubrick, and others. Which young directors do you think will be remembered for changing the landscape like those directors did?

Two names that come to mind are Robert Eggers and Damien Chazelle. Trey Edward Shults has a chance to get up there too.

Eggers is very good. But he's more into some 'autheur' style.

Chazelle is damn skilled when it comes to musicals, but it's not clear how he will manage out of the genre.

Edward Shults is just another Jordan Peele case: average director extremely promoted by mainstream media because he's the wokest among the wokes (praise the diversity! amen!).

The best new directors right now are Na Hong-jin and and Makoto Shinkai. None of them are in Hollywood, and I hope they never will.

I'll do it if someone pays me.

Ari Aster. (Midsommar, Hereditary)

Christopher Nolan.

Definitely Ari Aster and Yorgos Lanthimos. But the age of the young filmmaker is kinda over. It's nearly impossible to break into the industry before your 30's without having a million connections.

add Denis Villeneuve, James Mangold and Rian Johnson are lock in Gareth Edwards returned this year after hiatus with The Creator(2023)

reply

Rian Johnson is an insufferable woke twat of limited ability. Mangold is hardly ‘young’ at 60. Villeneuve is competent but his films are all sterile and dull. Gareth Edwards is mediocre.

Let’s face it, if there’s talent out there Hollywood isn't interested, and with the great directors dying off and Tarantino retiring when we need him the most… we’re fucked.

The only young director I was excited about was Ari Aster… and then I saw Beau Is Afraid.
