Mel Gibson is a gifted director
Braveheart and Apocalypto are two of the greatest adventure films of all time. He has a keen perfectionist attention to detail and an ability to direct action like no one else.

shareSo what. He repels me, and I don't want to watch anything he's touched.
And no, I'm not boycotting his work through any sense of outrage, this is a purely emotional reaction. You say "Mel Gibson", I feel "Ick, change the channel".
Why does he repel you, because he’s a piece of shit person? If you used that as a rubric for rating celebrities you’d boycott Hollywood. Forget about who these artists are as people, Walt Disney was a flagrant anti Semite and a racist, Alec Baldwin is pretty awful if you heard how he spoke to his daughter, Bill Cosby and Polanski were rapists.
shareI agree he is a very good director. I would also add that Passion of the Christ and Hacksaw Ridge are excellently directed too. The Man Without a Face is his weakest film, in my opinion, but still pretty good.
shareApocalypto is a masterpiece and Braveheart is great too. I've been a fan of Mel as long as I've been watching movies. Loved him in Dragged Across Concrete recently.
