How many people do you personally know that have gotten covid?

I probably had it in January as both my son and I were really sick.

reply

Zero.

And stop talking about politics.

reply

I'm not. There are plenty of other Covid threads on General Discussion.

reply

You're not talking politics. And you're not a trump supporter. Got it.

reply

I deleted the Trump part and much of the rest of my post as well. You're right it did seem political.

reply

Excellent. Thank you.

We have a regular poster here from Australia who's been sick with it for weeks. His moniker is Intothenight, in case you might want to look at his comments.

reply

Thanks I'll take a look.

None personally but my wife is in healthcare and she does report at least 2 dozen deaths at her hospital over the last 2 weeks

Tell your old lady thank you.

Will do, thanks

I believe I had it back in the first half of February, but had written it off as a seasonal flu because the actual symptoms weren't made known. After I found out what they were, a month later, I'm 99% sure, although there are no tests yet available to confirm.

The head of public health in this area said it'd been here for quite a while, when the powers that be were still claiming "no known cases!" and meanwhile only 3 people had been tested. For months.

There's another member, AndyKing, who thinks the same.

One of the people in this household told me last night she's a friend in Minnesota who believes she also had it about a month ago. Again, there are no tests available to confirm. I believe it was far more widespread than we, the public, realised.

Then there are the many who only had mild symptoms, and again can't confirm because no tests available. Not to mention the people who had no symptoms, so wouldn't have any way of knowing even through symptoms. I would like someone to explain how people who were asymptomatic were proven to have it, when even those who had the corresponding symptoms can't get tested to confirm.

reply

I may have had it around the New Year. I had a cough, very mild fever, but awful diarrhea. The worst was the extreme chills/sweats I would get. Also my 7 year old son had a temp of 103. I was told I had an upper respiratory infection.

Oh, and I went to an Asian massage place twice in December.

So maybe I had it myself.

reply

Hmm, sounds like you might have. We now know those are some of the telling symptoms. Plus having been to an Asian massage place.

A month prior, I had a flu that was bad. Wrote it off as a 24-48-hour stomach flu. Diarrhea, chills, sweats, headache, and all I wanted to do was lie in bed and sleep for 2 days. And drink tons of fluids, no solids. I was p!ssed off when I got sick AGAIN a month later because it's rare for me to get sick even once a year, never mind twice in 2 months.

But surely I couldn't have had it twice?? With very different symptoms, except for the chills, fever, and fatigue. The first one didn't give me any shortness of breath and only lasted a couple of days.

Have you and your son fully recovered now? I hope so.

reply

We know of at least one mutation. Considering the 7B or so petri dishes available, several variants wouldn't surprise me.

reply

But wouldn't it be bad luck that beggars belief to have contracted *both* variants? I mean, anything's possible but wow.

Or, if it's true, and it's given me immunity for both, maybe it was good luck? 🤷‍♀️

reply

If you were susceptible to one I suppose it's possible to get the second for the same reason with enough variation to make it distinct.
But if that's true it could make your antibodies important. Maybe very important.

reply

I don't know how this works well enough to know, it just seems like the odds are slim, on the face of it.

Hadn't thought of that, but you may be right. If I had and survived both, and had antibodies for both, I'm probably one of very few who do. But as far as I know, they don't know for certain if having it means the antibodies protect you, or if they do, for how long.

reply

It's showing promise as a last ditch effort for people who haven't responded well to anything else. Apparently it doesn't work for long or for everyone, but enough to pull them back from the edge.
Or so I've gathered.
You could save lives, Cat. It's worth looking into but unless you're in a major metropolitan area this is probably something for the near future.

reply

What's showing promise? Have they been able to make a ... something using the blood/antibodies of those who've recovered? This is all news to me.

I'm not in a major metro area, unfortunately in this instance. Once I've moved and settled in, I'll look into it. Right now I've only got 3 days to prep, pack, and move. Thought I had 6 days, so I'm frazzled.

reply

Yeah you may have had it as well.

I was the same way. No appetite but was downing the water, gatorade, and even tried some pedialight or pediasure, whatever that stuff is called. My son was better about 5 days later, it took me about 10 days.

I still feel like I cough more then normal even now but I think I am fully recovered.

Yeah I don't know if u can't get it twice. I'm telling myself you can't, and also telling myself I definitely had it, but that is as much just to make me not stress about as anything else.

reply

It's frustrating to have no way to know for certain. Sure sounds like you had the one version of it, even to your young son recovering quickly but you not.

I sure hope you're recovered. Do you think it's possible you're coughing more because this is all over the public awareness? Kind of like how my nose or eyes start itching when I go out in public and know I can't scratch the itch normally?

There's a certain amount of comfort in thinking you've got some kind of immunity, but I'm still careful and hope you are too.

reply

An Asian massage place. Uh hunh. 😉

reply

Oh it's very true! Not a rub and tug, at least I have never been offered one! And I just prefer Asian places because whenever I've gone to a place like Massage Envy my masseuse always wants to chat with me. I don't enjoy massages when I feel like I have to talk. Also, no appointment needed at Asian place. Within minutes of going in they are working on me.

Not to derail my own thread but massage is great! Highly recommend it! And if you like 420 get blazed before. Soooooo relaxing and nice.

reply

I'd love to get a massage after my move as a self-care treat. But, can't get one now. I don't want to chat when I'm getting one either.

reply

I used to get a warm deep tissue massage and go see my chiropractor.
And then take a 5 hour nap ;)
Haven't let anyone mess with my back since my injury. I want to. Just not happening. Yet.

But I am thinking about a hot tub on the deck. Think about it: snow drifting down, mountains in the background, shoulder deep in the tub with a margarita, a blunt, and the perfect company. Nice.
