Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Tarantino’s worst movie

And once again, the one that gets disproportionately praised. Just like The Departed (which was still good, and WAY better than Hollywood,) a master director is only recognized by the academy for their weakest efforts. Really stupid.

I'm really sick of people ignoring the actual site a topic is meant to be posted under. I think we should start ignoring them.

reply

Not even close. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood wasn't bad, whereas Death Proof was the most annoying movie I've ever seen (not just the most annoying Quentin Tarantino movie).

reply

I love the movie and as of now my favorite QT.
Can’t wait for the uncut version.

Imo it was better than his other recent movies like Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds or Django, but there was so much build up for 2 hours I thought there was going to be some crazy explosive ending or dramatic twist... and well, I guess there was, but it was just Brad Pitt murdering the cultists. In the end it was just another historical revisionist revenge story, like his other 21st century movies.

I've enjoyed every one of Tarantino's movies. I'd put that one in the top four or five. My least favorite might be the Hateful Eight. Or Death Proof.

reply

Ugh hateful 8 and death proof sucked compared to pulp, Django, inglorious, and kill bill.

reply

I wouldn't say they sucked, but unlike most of his movies, I'm not real interested in rewatching them.

reply

Exactly, in fact hateful 8 was painful to sit through for me.

reply

DISAGREE....HOWEVER,EVEN IF IT WERE HIS "WORST"...IT WOULD STILL BE REALLY GOOD.

reply

haha. all i remember is the Greats. i bet you what others think are his 'weakest' films he thinks are his greatest efforts. who knows hey we all different

reply

Not his worst, but I didn't like it at all. It felt like a series of vignettes with no real cohesive storyline. There were too many scenes of people driving with music playing with no real purpose. The entire film was a leadup to the Manson murders but Tarantino changed history and turned it into a comedic event. The gratuitous feet shots were annoying. Every character, including other Tarantino films, talks the exact same. Even the little girl who was talking to DiCaprio on set.

reply

Yeah the pedophile and foot fetish vibes were unnecessary as well

Part of what was going on was contrasting Cliff Booth to Roman Polanski. Cliff lives in a trailer, loves his dog, drives a junky car and works as a stunt man. Polanski lives in a mansion, dog is just a nuisance, flashy car and is a director.

Cliff Booth is a “real man” therefore turns down the advances of the underage hippie. We all know what Polanski did.

There’s much more if you think about it.

reply

Yeah that’s a good point I didn’t think about that layer

reply

There’s way more than that.. much cool stuff going on. 👍
