Do you prefer to watch movies alone?

I do. Both in the theatre and at home. In the theatre people laugh at the dumbest things, they kick the back of your chair, cough, wear excessive amounts of cologne/perfume that rides up your nose the entire movie and they chew like cows. At home people talk over the film, they tell you to rewind things because they enjoyed that half a second and want to watch it again or to rewind it because they were talking over it.

Leave me be when I'm watching movies. I shall watch it with nary an interruption.

I think I've gotten so spoiled by online streaming that most often it's probably best I do watch alone.

I'm the restless sort and unless a film is truly riveting I'll pause it a lot and take frequent breaks. I avoid going to the theater much anymore because of my restlessness.
The best antidote to my restlessness is more good movies.

What you just said is what Quentin Tarantino complained about. He said people who stream will just give up and watch something else. I disagree with it, but that's what he said.

Well, I think you're both right.. Sometimes it's just a matter of not being in the right mood at the right time because quite often I'll come back to something I couldn't get into at first and I'll love it the 2nd time around. And other times I'll see it's not for me and won't even bother to come back to it..Just depends.

But what I was referring to is that even films I continue to watch can make me restless and I might do a lot of pauses and take lots of breaks and go do something else awhile. I do this a lot unless the film can put me on the edge of my seat.
That would be pretty annoying if I'm watching with someone.

I like to watch movies I know I'm going to enjoy by myself.

For instance, I watched Superman Red Son last night and was very happy and interested. If I have to stop internet surfing to watch something, I'm interested.

If my GF was here she would not have enjoyed it as she doesn't get superheroes on the same level as I do. So, I feel nervous, like I have to explain, and semi apologetic for watching. I'm tense, only with females, if I know the movie is not for them.

If it's a movie everyone is going to enjoy I love watching together. All of my best friends growing up with movie fans and we'd go out after to talk about it. I used to love that.

I get this all the time. I would highly recommend Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but I'm sure a lot of people would think I'm weird for liking that and just complain about how confusing they thought the movie was.

Oh, I understood that movie completely.

I saw it with the woman I was with and I thought it very sad.

I was reminded of this girl I went out with in my 20s for eight years. I would happy erase that. I used to even jump if I met someone with her name. On the flipside I don't like the idea of dismissing people like they mean nothing, so there's that.

There was lots of interesting messages in there and I remember them although I only watched it when it first came out. I have no idea if my gf would like it, but I'd give it a shot.

I can see it now: "That's the killer. Wait, no, that one is the killer." It turns out that none of those are the killer and then: "see, I told you that was the killer".

reply

Exactly, I can be totally wrong the whole time and then convince myself I knew who did it all along!

My wife and I tend to watch older movies together - recently Citizen Kane and High Noon.

If you got a wife that is willing to watch those classics, then it seems like you got a great movie watching partner. Those are rare.
