Abolish Daylight Savings Time (DST)

It's March, and here we go again with this senseless changing of the clocks. DST needs to be abolished. It accomplishes nothing but the disruption of human biological cycles. It doesn't save energy, or benefit the farmers, or any of the other myths that continue to circulate. And it doesn't make the days longer.

A day is always 24 hours in length. Yes, there is more sunlight during the spring and summer months only because the Earth is tilted on its axis with the Northern Hemisphere facing the Sun. The converse occurs during the fall and winter. It's called the change of seasons, and it all balances out in the long run. Resetting the clock has no effect whatsoever on the position of the Sun. You have merely been fooled by the government into getting up one hour earlier, which creates the illusion of a "longer day."

Standard Time is the true time, with noon recorded when the Sun appears highest in the sky, hence the term "high noon." DST is fake time, and this World War II era practice should have been scrapped decades ago.

Standard Time should be the permanent time. Those who still wish to pursue that mythical "longer day" are free to get up one hour earlier during the spring and summer. Employers could be encouraged to offer earlier starting/quitting times during these months.

Congress is responsible for this DST nonsense. Contact your representatives and tell them to put a stop to this foolishness once and for all.

It's only one hour we're talking. I think most biological clocks can handle that.

The way it's done is stupid. We don't need more daylight in summer and less in winter. It should be reversed, so it would be daylight until 6:00 instead of 5:00 in winter. It would still be daylight until after 7:00 in summer, which is late enough.

Then you would need to find a way to stop the Earth from tilting on its axis. That's what causes the variances in the amount of sunlight, which is part of the change of seasons. Resetting the clocks has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Winter will always have less sunlight and summer will always have more, regardless of how the clocks are set. It all balances out in the long run. With DST you are merely getting up one hour earlier, and being misled into thinking that the days are longer.

So leave the time alone. Those who still want the mythical "longer day" are free to get up an hour earlier..

Sounds like a lot of work

What is this DST? Some kind of fad? I give it six months.

I think we should keep daylight savings time BUT when it's time to spring forward, instead of a Sunday morning change, I think the clocks should be moved forward Monday at noon. Nothing like taking an hour off a Monday workday to make the time change go down easy. The fall back change should stick to Sunday to give me an extra hour of weekend lol

I like it to stay lighter longer in the evening. I don't care about mornings, so I'm all for year round Daylight Savings Time
