The Oscars are on this Sunday. Who is going to be on these boards?

I am. Looking forward to discussions on surprises and robberies.

Never much cared for awards shows. I do think its funny that they can't find a host after Kevin Hart lost the gig because of a gay joke he told like a decade ago. No one can pass the purity test to host now, I guess, or wants to try anyway.

reply

Their safest bet is Tom Hanks.

reply

At this rate they might as well just lean into controversy and get Tom Sizemore.

reply

Allaby usually starts a thread.

As per usual I will be opting out of the Oscars, and will instead be tuning in to the On Cinema At the Cinema Oscar Special, like a bawss. ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ

What is that?

Might be tied with Curb Your Enthusiasm as my favorite thing in the history of comedy.
I've thought about starting a thread about it because it's extremely apropos of this board and its denizens.

(Also here's a synopsis to give you an idea of how the show has evolved, because it is a lot to catch up on โ€” although I highly recommend skipping it and watching the whole series instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj7VEcSjdXU)

Too bad do don't get Adult Swim. I would have changed during the boring Oscar parts to check it out.

reply

It's streaming live on their website.

reply

I'll have to check it out.

Just subscribed. ๐Ÿ‘

This is going to be my first year watching the Oscar special live, and I'm on pins and needles. Will we finally get an update on Mark's whereabouts? What elaborate showpiece will Gregg be unveiling? Will Tim be ushering in Zero Hour? Whatever happens, it's bound to be nuts.

reply

I bet you a disgruntled family member of the Electric Sun 19 will show up to try and kill Tim.

reply

After all the firearm teasing this last season, I fully expect someone to get shot.

reply

+1. The On Cinema Oscars Special is 100000x more entertaining than the actual Oscars. Plus you have Gregg Turkington telling you when Oscer got it wrong, and Tim entertaining us all with his music.

reply

I wish I were interested, but I can't afford to go to the cinema anymore, I don't want to watch a bunch of rich people preen, and it all adds up to nothing. If Ang Lee and Richard Linklater lose to JJ Abrams for best director, how is that going to change how I feel about their movies? A lot of hype that doesn't mean a thing.

reply

It's just something to watch. Check it out for the drunkenness and controversies.

reply

Itโ€™s a kuman de la festival

reply

I will be. I'm looking forward to it too.

reply

See you Sunday.

reply

I don't remember too much going on here in past years.

I'll watch the Oscars on Sunday -- but I'm more looking forward to the Indie Spirit Awards today.

Good read
Some MIAs in there

Frogarama being the big one

reply

I miss Froggie.

reply

Me too

reply

Iโ€™m going to watch the Independent Spirit Awards today too. One of us should start a thread when it comes on.

reply

I'd watch it if I was able to get the channel.

reply

It's a damn joke. "Let's all get together and ego-stroke ourselves. Yay!"

reply

But that's what makes it so entertaining. Laughing at the ego but also being happy a movie you liked won.

reply

These people are pathetic wastes with not a fucking clue what real life about. I used to feel sorry for them. Now I'm just disgusted.

reply

I'll be around
The Oscars are fun nonsense

reply

Exactly, fun nonsense.
