None of these are costume dramas, and I wouldn't consider any of them as "Romance", maybe, maybe "Annie Hall", but its also a drama/comedy, and an overall good movie. I'll be happy to recommend more, I put a few extra because I'm going to assume you've seen a handful of these. Feel free to be more specific... I just posted a movie someone else recommended me, "The Yellow Handkerchief".

Blimey, I was expecting only a couple of suggestions, so please accept my thanks on such a comprehensive list. I’ve probably seen about 70% of your list, which just underlines how accurate your recommendations are.

I shall now wade through the ones I haven’t seen. I’m honestly looking forward to discovering some new favourites. Top drawer!

reply

That's why I listed so many, I figured you had seen most. Enjoy!

I like movies that start out down to earth, where the main character goes about his or her daily business - waiting in line at the bank, sniffing a tomato in the produce aisle, carrying a crate from one end of the docks to the other to name but a few examples...

Then they get into some sort of adventure.

reply

A really good edge of your seat thriller. Preferably no older than 1980.

"Thief"

I haven't seen it, looks good, Thanks!

You're welcome -- hope you enjoy it!
