I haven't watched a new movie since 2016...
Anybody here beat that record?
shareNot all...but outside of 4 movies I haven't been to a theater since 1999.
shareSince 1999 I’ve seen most of Tarantino’s films, True Grit (2010), The Revenant (2015), 1917 (2020) and maybe a couple others that I can’t remember.
I have seen plenty of kids movies and many retro showings also.
You should check out Detroit, Wind River, Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, War for the Planet of the Apes, Annihilation, US, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
sharewhat was said movie
shareIVE WATCHED 5 SINCE YESTERDAY.
shareMay I ask your age? I was the same way from the ages of about 16-- to about--28.
Do you fall into that range?
IM 38...I HAVE UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES THOUGH....IM THE MOTHER OF THE FAMILY,HAVE RAISED MY DAUGHTER SINCE BIRTH,COOKING AND CLEANING,CARETAKE THE SMALL FARM WE HAVE,DO ALL THE DRIVING(WIFE DOESNT DRIVE OR MOTHER OR CLEAN OR COOK)….I TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GAPS DURING THE DAY BETWEEN CHORES AND AT NIGHT WHEN EVERYBODY IS SLEEPING...SMOKE A BOWL AND WATCH FLICKS...GRANTED MOST MOVIES I WATCH ARE PAUSED AND UNPAUSED MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET TO THE END.
shareHave you always been into movies? What kinda stuff you into?
Kinda bummer you have to keep stopping and starting movies. I hate having to do that.

AND WOULDTAPE MOVIES FOR US ALL THE TIME...PLUS VIDEO STORES AT THE TIME...I WAS BRED TO ME A FILM FANATIC...I PRETTY MUCH LIKE EVERYTHING,ALL GENRES...HORROR,COMEDY...HORROR/COMEDY WOULD PROBABLY BE MY GO TO...DIG THE MCU TOO...PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING...MY HOME COLLECTION/VID STORE IS AT/NEAR/OVER 20,000 TITLES NOW...MY DAUGHTER IS GROWING UP WITH MOVES WAY MOREAVAILABLE TO HER THAN I DID,AND IT SHOWS...SHE IS A MINI ME.
sharesadly, you haven't missed much
shareThat's kinda the thing...I watched tons of movies when I was younger, then one day I just kinda felt like I seen it all, ya know? Like at some point you've seen about every plot point, nuance, dramatic twist etc. there is.
Everything seems like a slight variation of something else you've seen before.
It's also hard for me to read fiction now too, for the same reason.
No. I highly prefer movies from the 1930-70s, but I will watch certain movies just to test it out... I've usually regretted watching a "new" movie. The one that I did like in 2016 was a guy who says he's retiring (Ken Loach), "I, Daniel Blake"
The "newest" movie that I considered GREAT was "Buffalo '66" which is 22 years old.
I know what you mean. It would be fun to do a graph for my top 100 based on year.
shareBuffalo 66, huh? I didn't really get that movie, but I miss that era of filmmaking.
shareI still watch new stuff but more out of a sense of duty to stay aware than anything. Pre-90s is where I live.
I have to acknowledge that I do occasionally find inspiration in new movies, and if not, the experience is likely to reinforce my passion for the olden ways and feels.
