What's the worst ending of all time?

My pick goes to the 2012 film "The Devil Inside". It ends with a group of guys getting into a car crash and then it cuts to a blank screen. A title card comes up and tells you to go to a website to find out more. The best part is that the site stopped working two years after the film's release.
Check out the ending for yourself:

That one really pissed me off too.

reply

It's straight up laziness.

Lucy (2014) annoyed me as well. I liked the movie overall, it wasn't bad, and then the ending just didn't work for me. I don't think it's the worst, but it's up there.

reply

Yeah... Lucy was painting itself into a corner basically, ended with what I call a "hyper happy ending" which is like the movie Limitless. These stories put no caps on the protagonist's power level so they dwindled into absurd levels of abilities by making their superpowers way too far from it's original premise.

reply

I HEAR LUCY 2 IS IN SCRIPT STAGE.

reply

I don't know if this is the best or the worst, but it's certainly an ending:

What the hell did I just watch?

reply

The final scene of Jungle Fever.

reply

No, I mean like what the hell kind of weird ending did I just watch?

reply

A Spike Lee Joint.

reply

He was also smoking one when he wrote that ending.

reply

Oh, is that what he was constantly referring to by saying "roll this one up" and such regarding his movies?

And to think that all this time I thought he was talking about film reels...

reply

Believe it or not, I get it.

I work in psychology in Philly and am in the worst parts of town. It is REALLY horrible when I see a pretty white girl prostituting herself for tiny amounts of money.

I am a white guy and of course have feeling for all kinds of people, but find white girls the most beautiful and it's my instinct to protect them. I have literally had beautiful girls come up to me and ask much the same question and it kills me inside.

I saw that film when it first came out and thought it very racist and stupid. However, as I recall he didn't go with the white woman and so the scene at the end was what I explained in the above. I would like to save all the white women I see and I guess he is having the same reaction to black women.

reply

Hahah oh dude! It's always the screaming ending!

splice

reply

You just reminded me of how gross that movie was.

reply

First one that popped into my mind is the final sequence of The Reflecting Skin. I almost died laughing and that was definitely not the intended reaction.

1) That was pretentious. 2) Was that a blow up doll?

reply

1. You bet
2. Lol if it had been... that could have saved the scene.

I've probably seen worse endings but the worst one I can think of right now is Revenge of the Sith's ending. You got the Vader "noooo!", a bunch of neatly tied bows because Lucas lacks imagination, and I suppose if you want to go further back you got two pretty embarrassing lightsaber fights that remind you why this trilogy is so bad.

But I suppose when the rest of the movie is as bad as the ending, it isn't too noticeable. So the movie I can think of with the worst ending in comparison to the rest of the product is I Am Legend. The first 3/4ths of the movie are genuinely enjoyable, especially everything before the doggy dies. But then that ending just kinda ruins all that, really taints the rest of the movie.

reply

I can't tell you how many reviews I read at the time that liked I Am Legend but then complained about the ending.

reply

It's hard to pinpoint THE worst ending because if the whole movie is overall bad a bad ending doesn't ruin it. It was already ruined to begin with. So I thing worst ending should only be judged for good movies with a really really bad ending that ruined the whole movie.

The closest thing I get to that was maybe Signs and 10th Cloverfield Lane. Both has basically the same ending, which is ruining the whole movie for me.

reply

So many people kept mentioning the twist ending in Signs. I finally saw it and was so disappointed. That's not a twist. It just didn't rain yet.

reply

Oh, and one more... with the exact same ending no less: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. How can one think an ending that didn't work for Signs would work for Indiana Jones? It wouldn't work. That ending wouldn't work for any movie.

reply

The Village (2004)

reply

This movie cheated. Of course we wouldn't think that was the twist.

reply

Actually, I thought that was the twist when I first read the premise of the movie. Watching that movie was a waste of time.
