Avoid vaping with the ones causing deaths. I think those vape pens have vitamin E acetate added to them.

FYI vaping is just as bad for you as smoking. The only advantage to vaping is that it doesn't smell as bad so other people don't despise you for doing it quite so much, but the cancer risk is just as high and so is the risk of long-term damage to your lungs.

I don't have any first-hand advice on quitting smoking, but I've heard a lot of people say the following: "If you use nicotine gum or patches or chantrix or any other cigarette substitute as part of a gradual reduction program, use them for twice as long as recommended. Like, if the nicotine gum say to have however many pieces a day for two weeks, have that many pieces for four weeks." For what that's worth.

im still on the durries was on the vape for a week or so , one weekend on the piss endeded that , but vape has to be better then 50 gram pouch of roll your owns twice a week plus

That is completely wrong. In Britain, a review by Public Health England, an agency similar to the CDC, concluded that vaping is about 95% less dangerous than smoking. A leading British anti-tobacco charity, Ash, even called for e-cigarettes to be licensed as medicines and provided free to smokers trying to quit by Britain’s government-funded health system. Basically, while the US cracks down, the UK has embraced electronic cigarettes as a powerful tool to help smokers kick the habit.

If the vape crap still contains nicotine, it's still dangerous. End of story.

My point was that it is no where near as harmful as cigarettes and it can be a valuable tool when used as a smoking cessation device, as the original poster is intending. The Surgeon General also indicates that nicotine itself does not cause cancer, so anytime someone plans to use one to quit smoking, they should be encouraged.

reply

Speaking as someone whose job brings me into contact whose lives and lungs have been ruined by smoking, I absolutely encourage anyone who wants to quit smoking to quit!

Just don't kid yourself that alternate methods of getting nicotine into your system are in any way safe or heathy. Use them as tools to quit only.

Don't kid yourself. If you're vaping you're still smoking. I quit cold turkey a 28 year pack a day habit about 18 years ago. Yeah, quitting cold turkey was hard especially the first 30 days but after trying the patch and gum cold turkey was the only method of quitting smoking that worked for me. When I got the urge to smoke I would just sit still until the urge passed and it always did. Also never pick up a cigarette again. It's impossible to smoke if you don't have any cigarettes available. After about a year the urges had mostly dissipated. Good luck. You'll feel better and have more money in your pocket when you quit.

Yeah, in fact vaping is probably worse than smoking, and smoking unadulterated tobacco is probably better than smoking the chemicals they put in over the counter cigarettes.

Cold turkey is the way to go ... just be patient and the urge will go away.

I'd never vape not that we know no one really knows what is in any of those cartridges.

I gave up 14 years ago (I smoked 40 a day), so vaping was not an option. It took me 6 months to quit. I went from 40, down to 5 (I calculated I only enjoyed 5 - the rest were just habit), then 4, 3, 2 and finally 1. After that gum. Since then, never touched one, ever. Good luck!

Both smoking AND vaping are bad for you. You shouldn't do either.

You will only quit when you realize in your bones you do not want to be a smoker and you WANT to quit. When I quit smoking, and it took me a long time, I realized that every time I looked at a cigarette, or whatever, and thought I wanted to smoke that I was actively trying to kill myself in a way, and it was inconsistent with what I really wanted. Drugs do weird things to people. Anyway ... you don't really want to smoke or you would not be asking, so try thinking about it that way.
