Does AMC theaters have assigned seating now?

Past few times I've been to AMC theaters, there's been assigned seating. Is this something new? Cause if so...I hate it. It is so incredibly lame.

They run the IMAX theater next to my house and they have assigned seating for the IMAX. I don’t know if they do it for the other screens.

Well last time I went to see Joker, I went to a regular screening, and there was still assigned seating. So apparently assigned seats must be the new norm.

I wouldn’t doubt it. I assumed it was an IMAX thing but when I went to another IMAX they didn’t have it so it must be an AMC thing.

Can't you choose your seat when buying tickets online?

I was at an early release for The Addams Family (awful !). Seats were assigned and the theatre was full and someone was sitting in my seat. Not worth getting into a fuss over, but I don't think it's helpful rather than letting the people who are there early get to sit where they want and everyone else can figure it out. Most people should make whatever room they can to accommodate others, but the assigned seating seems like pushing things too far.
I wasn't even trying to sit next to the person I came with, but even then the seat was taken and it was assigned to at least one of us !

The thing I have begun to notice at movie theaters is that they don’t have box offices and make you go to the concession stand to buy tickets. So unless you purchase a ticket online you have to wait for everyone to order all their food just to buy a ticket.

Yes they so. Not sure if I like it or not.

PS The correct phrase there would be "Do AMC theaters......"

Regal Cinemas now have assigned seats. I always go off-peak days and hours so it doesn't matter to me but a few times I've seen people move down so a family could sit together, no more of that I reckon.

Our local Cinemark and Premiere theaters offer Reserved seating which I like. I purchase my tickets online to attend early matinees. I choose my seat at time of purchase on the walk through aisle. No one directly in front of me. Many times I’ve had the theater to myself.
