I've never been there myself, but I can't imagine being a musician but writing music as bland, lifeless, and phlegmatic as Coldplay does. Music is about taking risks, not putting people to sleep.

Like some doctors, who while growing up, were inspired to their profession by seeing someone close to them suffer through an illness, perhaps Chris Martin had a family member who suffered from insomnia and he decided to dedicate his life to trying to find a cure.

They've had a few good songs but have never interested me enough to listen to a whole album. I'm more a Muse man myself.
