The best chemistry between two actors

My vote is for Steiger and Poitier - In The Heat of the Night

It's great that the two guys you mentioned were put in each other's shoes.

Charlton Heston and that darn, dirty ape Roddy McDowall from "The Planet of the Apes".

Boy, they were quite a contrasting pair, each bringing a wit of intellect. Heston, of course, being the relatable working man's man; McDowell, robust and practical plus sympathetic honesty mixed with a hint of brashness.

Sadly I haven't seen any on your list. Will need to check them out

If you like English Drama then you will be in for a treat.

Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox worked really well in Inspector Lewis. Also Shaun Evans and Roger Allam in Endeavour.

reply

I haven't seen 'Lewis'. I guess because for me Lewis will forever be Morse's other half. But I was blown away by just how good the first two seasons of 'Endeavour' with Evans and Allam were. Better than 'Morse'! And you're right the chemistry between those two was very good as well.

Some day when you're bored give Lewis a go. Although originally I wasn't so sure about how I'd take to Lewis as the lead character, it was nice to see how well he stepped into the spotlight. I actually liked it better than Inspector Morse, and I liked Morse a lot - it was the first Brit series I ever watched. It spoiled me on American television because I realized how much more intelligent Brit TV is compared to American TV.

When I first started watching Endeavour I was a bit apprehensive, not sure they could do justice to the Morse character, but I have to say, Shaun Evans nailed it. I think all three series are great.

The best of English Drama is as good as it gets I agree there is just so much depth to it. I'll have a look around and see if I can pick up 'Lewis' on DVD. You have sparked my interest.

At first Shaun Evans was a bit jarring because he looked nothing like John Thaw but I got used to him quickly enough and he did the job very well.

I agree - Shaun Evans looked nothing like John Thaw or what we'd imagine a young Thaw might look like, but like you, I got used to it. Evans did a great job of adopting Thaw's mannerisms. And check your local library - I've seen all the Lewis episodes. I think you'll like it.

I forgot to mention that there are recurring nods to Morse in Lewis, mostly in the first couple of episodes. Some were quote obvious, but others were more nuanced. I thought they were a nice salute to John Thaw/Morse, especially considering he passed away a couple of years after Morse ended.

I loved both of those TV series.

Poirot is one of my favourite shows of all time. I loved it when Hastings was still part of the show.

I did a rewatch of Pride & Prejudice this summer. So good. One of my favourite mini series.
