The Exorcist
Alien
Friday the 13th part 2

reply

Based on imdb's classifications of horror, my top 10 horror films are:

Psycho (1960)
The Birds (1963)
King Kong (1933)
Freaks (1932)
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)
The Shining (1980)
House (1977)
The Exorcist (1973)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Videodrome (1983)

reply

Good list!

I love Videodrome, Cronenberg is a terrific director and may have created the whole 'body horror' genre...I might be off on that but he's always the first guy I think of in the 'body horror' category

Salo...jeez, I can't believe any of us even sat through that one
Very tough movie, I did not like it at all but I have some horror/thriller fans and friends that all saw it so I had to
The Director Passolini was killed under very strange circumstances...weird story right there:/

I have not yet seen Freaks but it's certainly on my list

reply

I haven’t seen Salò yet and I’ve been avoiding it for years.

reply

Salo is not an easy film to watch. It can be disturbing and disgusting at times, but I feel it is a rewarding film, in its own way. It is a very memorable and well crafted film.

reply

I've only watched the nude scenes.

reply

House was wild. Interesting choice.

reply

Texas chainsaw massacre 74
The exorcist
Alien

The 70s was the bomb for horror

reply

It would be an understatement to say those are three of the greatest. 👍

reply

Thanks...I'm a horror nut but those three pictures scare the hell out of me every time!

reply

the exorcist
the thing
alien
village of the damned
dracula
frankenstein
the omen
the changeling
burnt offering
invasion of the body snatchers
Curse of the Demon

reply

I’m a firm believer that during Burnt Offerings Karen Black was at the height of her sexiness.

reply

She really was very sexy
She was never 'movie star hot' but more like 'the hot lady next door'

I get you!

Great movie btw...

reply

‘The hot lady next door'

Exactly!!!

reply

While on the subject, I am now proudly displaying this poster of Karen Black on my wall except mine is German.

And yes, I only bought it because she’s on it. :)

Careful lads...those are maneaters!

I love horror and I have many favorites but these are some of my most watched ones that really stand out:

The Shining (1980)
The Woman in Black (1989)
Suspiria (1977)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
The Thing (1982)

reply

I've not seen The Woman in Black, I'll look it up
Your list is excellent

reply

evil dead
kill list
alien
rosemary's baby
invasion of the body snathers
videodrome
last house on the left

reply

A fine list damo👍I saw and really liked them all except one
Kill List was a great Thrill ride and I've turned my friends onto it!
The ones that have watched it on my word have all loved it

I have a thing about Polanski...I wont watch his pictures, that man should be shot right in the face on sight
I have heard that Rosemary's Baby is a great horror/drama but I'll likely never see it

reply

i certainly understand your response to polanski.

if you're at all interested, here is a link to a podcast i recently listened to that featured a short interview with samantha geimer, polanski's victim. i was quite amazed at how forgiving & accepting of polanski she is. it's a fascinating listen, i thought.

The Thing

Poltergeist
The Shining
The Exorcist

reply

Perfecto listo!
The original Frankenstein is an all
time 10/10 classic
Your other picks were really great too

reply

The Sound of Music

reply

😊 😊

reply

The hills are alive..... with the sound of music?

reply

Beverly Hills Ninja: The musical..?
I'd watch that!

reply

Hell yeah!

reply

Here's mine, with a few classic popular choices and a few personal favs I know aren't typically on lists:

Dawn of the Dead
Return of the Living Dead
Day of the Dead
Night Of The Living Dead (1990)
The Gate
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Alien
Poltergeist
Dead Alive
28 Days Later
The Void
Night of The Demons
Creepshow
Jeepers Creepers
Cannibal Holocaust
Fire In The Sky

Honorable Mention: The final tale from Necronomican: Book Of the Dead titled "The Butcher". The rest of the movie sucks but that specific portion is terrifying imo.

Also Fire in the Sky is obviously more sci fi then horror but isn't Alien also kinda sci fi? And ftr, I don't think Fire In The Sky is scary beginning to end but that abduction scene makes it all worth it.

I know there are a BUNCH I am forgetting about. And yes I am definitely a George Romero fan. And I'm definitely not picking purely scary movies but my personal favorites. Night of the Demons isn't too scary but it's fun and I like it so there.

reply

I'm your huckleberry...I love all of them (with the exception of Necronomicon: Book of the Dead which I read in High school but never saw the movie...the book was allegedly cursed and my dopey 16 year old friends were too scared to lay hands on it but c'mon, I picked it up at Barnes and Noble for 6 bucks...I tried explaining to them that anything with a barcode on it is not an actual cursed tome
I have idiots for friends

I took a very sweet and shy little Puerto Rican girl to Fire in the Sky...she held my hand for most of the movie and I drove a large, shitty truck just like they did in the film...she made funny jokes about ugly trucks and ugly white boys at my expense, we held hands and had 2 fine years together...I fell a bit in love during Fire in the Sky:)

Cannibal Holocaust...how about that beautiful music by Riz Ortolani?!?
I've played the opening theme with guests over and they loved it...they had no idea I was having them over for dinner😬

reply

The theme by Ortolani is mesmerizing and I can’t imagine Cannibal Holocaust without it.

reply

It's such a beautiful song and the opening shots over the lush forest are so peaceful...then you know what goes down!

reply

For the most part I thought Necronomicon the movie was lousy but as I said the last story was excellent. Being trapped with weird alien flying creatures that will eat your...bone marrow...by sucking it out of you is pretty dire!

Great story about Fire In the Sky. I was only 10 when it came out but my brother was in high school and had just gotten his license so that year he would take me to the movies a lot on Friday nights and I'm sure that would have been a great date movie if u wanted your date to be grabbing onto you the whole time.

I remember everyone in the theater being scared AF during the infamous abduction. I thought the opening 20 minutes were great and the abduction the first time seeing it, but over the years I've rewatched it many times and really love the whole thing now.

The music in Cannibal Holocaust is great and really gives the movie different feels. The light melodic stuff with the overhead jungle scenes and of course the twisted macabre for the nasty scenes.

reply

Necronomicon sounds good, if I happen across it I'm giving it a go!

Movies like Fire in the Sky were always great for dates!
Forgive me for sounding like a piggy but whatever gets the girl cuddling up to you is serious box office action;)

I once took a pretty girl from The Bronx to a movie called Medicine Man...It had Connery in it and he was in the jungle looking for some plant that could cure something or other...Ughh, boring as hell and I didn't even get a kiss!
That was a shitty date movie!

Go with horror movies on dates I say...cuddling and hand holding are sure to happen😍
