A wedding doesn't seem the same when....

My niece is getting married on Saturday so we are heading north to Thunder Bay tomorrow. The problem is she and her husband to be have been living together for 10 years and already have a kid. I have very little enthusiasm for this event.

reply

What are you complaining about they have been together for 10 years just sit back and say another success.

reply

they should have done it 10 years ago. it's anticlimactic now.

reply

yah what ever I get it.. they'll probably be divorced next year. but your 10 year thing gave me hope.

reply

I think they will be just fine.

reply

Or are we going for marriage never lasts , because i am on board with that too.

reply

I never thought of that.

reply

its not a bad thing. trust me.

reply

so i know people dont want to say stuff but.. I'm curious i'm a teacher ,,,who are you.. retired...etc.

reply

married, canadian, accountant, 56, father of one

reply

recently separated after 35 years.. teacher. Thats all i kind say now.

reply

very sorry to hear that.

reply

I know what you mean. The only thing that changes now is the legal aspect of it. It's hard to wish them a lifetime of happiness together when they've been doing it for 10 years already.

reply

I've been living with my partner for 10 years. We've discussed marriage but really mostly for the gifts. We decided we'd rather have a "We're never getting married" party and see what loot we'd get with that.

All kidding aside, I understand what you are saying, but if they want to celebrate, go and have fun. Do you feel the same if it's a second marriage?

reply

Second weddings should also be toned down in my opinion if it is the second marriage for both people. A person should only be entitled to one big wedding.

I will enjoy myself once I get there. The driving weather is great and the CDs are ready.

reply

High time, then!

But yeah, why make a big deal out of it at this point.

reply

it's a small wedding to be fair.

reply

We are on the road to Thunder Bay. A nine hour drive.

reply

Long drive, jeez!
That would annoy me too

Eh, try to have fun (I know you usually don't but get a splash of Rum in that Diet Coke😉)

reply

Congratulations to the happy couple. I understand what you mean, but enjoy the day and include plenty of laughs in your speech.

reply

There is no dancing. Going to a wedding in a month and the bride and groom told me that there is no dance floor and nobody, including the bridal party, will be dancing. So I guess we'll all just stand around and get drunk at the bar...

reply

Focus on the important stuff. I like it.
